These sides have only met once in a competitive game since Bolton last graced the Premier League in season 2011/2012. That came just a year later in the FA Cup and Everton won 2-1 away from home.
Players to watch: Ruben in the groove
Ruben Rodrigues was the Bolton hero at Wembley as he hit a double in the play-off final and the Portuguese playmaker will be a key man this season. He also netted twice in that friendly win over Oldham and will pose a threat to Everton.
Thierno Barry was Everton's marquee signing last summer but it took the striker time to settle. He'll be hoping to make a bigger impact in his second season and got off the mark with a goal in Dundee last weekend.
Probable line-ups
Both teams are in the early stages of their pre-season so expect plenty of changes. Jarrad Branthwaite and James Garner remain injury doubts for the Toffees while keeper Jordan Pickford is unlikely to play after only just returning from the World Cup.

Everton eased home against a Dundee side with two competitive games already under their belt, although the Dark Blues did field a lot of youngsters.
Bolton should give them more of a test on home soil but there's still a gulf in class so try backing the Toffees for a win with under 4.5 goals once some odds appear.
Most of the action at Dens came after the break, with three goals scored, so it could pay going for the second period to be the highest-scoring half in this game too.
If Moyes makes a lot of changes during the game it will increase Bolton's chances of getting on the scoresheet and that makes combining BTTS with over 2.5 goals another decent option.
