Non League Betting Tips

As we approach another crucial round of National League action, three standout fixtures provide excellent betting opportunities: Tamworth vs Wealdstone, Boston United vs Oldham Athletic, and York City vs Altrincham.

Each of these matches features key promotion and relegation battles, offering strong angles for value bets.

Wealdstone are desperate for points as they fight to avoid the drop. Meanwhile, Oldham Athletic travel to Boston United, with the visitors aiming to solidify their place in the top five, while Boston continues their battle for survival. Finally, York City host Altrincham in a crucial clash for both sides—York remain in the hunt for the title, while Altrincham look to cement their playoff spot.

This article will break down the best betting angles for each game, highlighting the form, key stats, and tactical trends that point toward profitable selections. Whether it is backing goals, supporting a strong home side, or finding value in defensive weaknesses, these matchups provide plenty of opportunities for well-researched bets

Tamworth vs Wealdstone

Wealdstone find themselves in a tight relegation battle, sitting just two points above fourth-bottom AFC Fylde. While they do have a game in hand, the bottom of the table remains incredibly close, with Maidenhead and AFC Fylde on 33 points, and Wealdstone and Dagenham both on 35. Every point is crucial as they aim to pull away from the danger zone.

Wealdstone’s away record this season stands at W3-D7-L6, with over 2.5 goals landing in 56% of their matches. They have struggled defensively, keeping just one clean sheet on the road, while failing to score in only three of their 16 away games. That sole clean sheet came in early November, meaning they have now gone seven straight away games without a shutout. In their last seven away matches, both teams to score has landed in six, while over 2.5 goals has hit in five. Across the season, 12 of their 16 away matches have seen both teams score.

However, Wealdstone’s recent form has been much stronger, with three consecutive victories helping them edge closer to mid-table safety. They have won their last two away matches 2-1, defeating both Braintree and Yeovil. Against teams sitting 17th or lower, they have lost just five of their last 18 National League matches, demonstrating their ability to grind out results against struggling opposition.

At home, their record reads W6-D7-L4, but they have managed to keep just two clean sheets all season, failing to score in just three matches. One of those clean sheets was against second-bottom Boston, with the other coming in a 0-0 draw with Yeovil. Their only home defeat without scoring was a 1-0 loss to Hartlepool. Meanwhile, their attacking threat is evident, having found the net even against table-toppers Barnet.

On the other side, Tamworth have struggled for defensive stability, keeping just two clean sheets in their last 20 National League matches. However, their attack has been far more reliable, scoring in each of their last eight league games. The only blank during this period was a 1-0 home defeat to Barnet, meaning they have now found the net in 10 of their last 11 matches.

At home, both teams to score has landed in seven of Tamworth’s last eight matches. Excluding the 1-0 loss to Barnet, they have now scored in nine of their last 10 home fixtures, conceding in eight of those matches. Over the season, 13 of their 17 home games have seen both team's score.

With both teams struggling defensively but consistently finding the net, goals seem inevitable. Wealdstone have kept just one clean sheet in their last 16 away games, while Tamworth have conceded in eight of their last 10 home matches. Given both teams’ attacking output and defensive vulnerabilities, backing over 2.5 goals provides strong value in a match where both sides are likely to find the net.

Boston Utd vs Oldham Athletic

Oldham sit fifth in the division and, while automatic promotion is likely out of reach, a top three finish—which would provide a major advantage in the playoffs—is still within their grasp. They are currently 10 points behind second-placed Forest Green, who have shown inconsistent form, meaning the gap is not insurmountable.

No team has picked up more away points than Oldham this season, with a record of W8-D7-L2, conceding just 19 goals on the road. They have accumulated the same number of away points as league leaders Barnet, despite playing one game fewer. Their attacking output has been consistent, as they have failed to score just once away from home all season, a 0-0 draw with Barnet.

Oldham have dominated lower-ranked opposition this season. While they have only managed one win against sides sitting ninth or higher, their record against teams 10th and below is W14-D4-L5. Against sides sitting 14th or lower on the road, their form is even stronger at W7-D2-L1.

They now travel to Boston United, who are 23rd in the table, battling for survival. Their home record has been poor, standing at W2-D5-L9, keeping just one clean sheet and failing to score in five of those matches. While they have pulled off an unlikely double over York City, that remains their only victory against a team sitting 16th or higher at home.

Recently, Boston have picked up wins against Dagenham (19th) and AFC Fylde (21st), but their results against stronger opposition remain concerning. Up until early November, their home record was W0-D3-L7, managing just seven goals in that period. Since then, they have improved slightly, going W2-D2-L2, scoring nine goals while conceding seven. However, they lost their most recent home match 2-1 to Eastleigh, and while they will be desperate to extend their survival fight, they are nine points behind Wealdstone, albeit with games in hand.

Oldham’s superior away record makes them strong favourites in this fixture. Boston’s recent improvements have come against struggling teams, but they have consistently failed when facing top-half opposition. Meanwhile, Oldham thrive against weaker sides, particularly on the road. With their promotion push gaining momentum, they should get the job done comfortably here.

York City vs Altrincham

York City cannot afford to drop any more points as they continue their push for the National League title. They currently sit six points behind league leaders Barnet, though they do have a game in hand. Their home form has been excellent, with a record of W13-D2-L2, and they have been one of the most consistent attacking teams in the division at home.

York have failed to score in just two of their 17 home matches, with over 2.5 goals landing in 71% of those fixtures. They have scored two or more goals in 12 of 17 home matches, averaging 2.47 goals per game at home. Interestingly, one of their two home defeats came against 23rd-placed Boston in a 2-0 loss, but aside from that, they have been dominant at home. If York are to seriously challenge Barnet for the title, they need their strong home form to continue, particularly given their inconsistent away record, where they have failed to win nine of their 17 road games.

Altrincham currently sit in the last playoff place, holding a four-point lead over eighth-placed Eastleigh, though they have two games in hand and could easily solidify their position. However, their away record is only the 10th-best in the division, with a record of W6-D4-L6, conceding 26 goals in those games. They have kept just four clean sheets on the road, though they have failed to score in only three away matches all season. They have already suffered away defeats against title-chasing Barnet and third-placed Forest Green, whilst they have already beaten York 3-0 at home earlier in the season. Notably, two of their four clean sheets have come against struggling sides sitting 21st and 22nd in the table.

While Altrincham have shown they can score regularly on the road, it is York’s firepower at home that stands out. Altrincham have conceded an average of 1.63 goals per away game, while York average 2.47 goals per home match—a significant difference that strongly favours the hosts.

Additionally, only Barnet have registered more shots on target at home than York this season, showing their ability to consistently create chances. Meanwhile, only six teams have conceded more shots on target away from home than Altrincham, highlighting their defensive vulnerabilities.

With York’s strong attacking trends at home and Altrincham’s struggles to keep clean sheets on the road, backing York to score at least twice offers excellent value, especially at generous odds.
