Top Football Tips

SUNDAY was some day for shocks so well done to those who predicted them and to everyone else who landed a winner.

Barnet, Newport, Oldham and Doncaster took pride of place and that would have been some fourfold.

All weekend I've been warning against backing teams in the FA Cup without seeing line-ups and there were two great examples yesterday.

My Top Treble was beaten by Sheffield United but I'd never have been on – and I managed to post a warning – if I'd known they would make 10 changes.

On the other hand while Man City made eight changes their starting line-up was strong and I'd have happily taken them -3 or even -4. Well done to HullShaker and others who lumped on City and I fear a doing for Burton when they travel to the Etihad on Wednesday in the EFL Cup.

My other treble also scored two out of three and was beaten by Real Madrid failing to score at home to Real Sociedad. Real should have had a penalty and under-fire boss Santiago Scolari was raging VAR wasn't consulted but his side also missed several good chances.

That's the way it's been going for me the past week and I shouldn't have kicked that black cat under the ladder the other day.

Well done to all the winners and nice to see Scott landing another members bet on the Sevilla match.

It's Wolves v Liverpool tonight and Jurgen Klopp will play a second string. Wolves will rest some too so wait for teams before tackling this one.

Not much else on but I've picked out a treble for a couple of points. First up it's btts at Tondela v Sporting  which looks good on stats. Five of the last six meetings have brought up btts and Sporting have kept one clean sheet in 13 on the road.

Tondela have netted two or more goals in their last four games so has the potential to be a high scorer.

Stay in Portugal and back leaders Porto -1 at home to Nacional. Porto have won 17 in a row and should win this by at least two. Nacional have conceded 17 in their last five on the road and their previous defeat was 5-2 at Sporting.

Complete the treble with Lille at home to Sochaux in the French Cup. Like the FA Cup there are shocks in this tournament – for example Marseille losing at a fourth-tier outfit yesterday – so again team news is vital.

Lille are the second best team in France but can't win the league as PSG are so much stronger than the rest. So maybe they'll target a cup and you'll know how serious they are if they start forwards Nicolas Pepe and Jon Bamba.

Sochaux lie 16th in Ligue 2 so there's a huge gap between the sides but new boss Omar Daf has led them to improved results and fewer goals conceded. Lille though look worth taking at 1-2.

The Portuguese double pays 5-4 if you don't want to risk Lille without seeing line-ups.

Remember to look at welovebetting for their tips and video chat.

THERE’S a match from Spain on Monday night that has caught my eye as relegation threatened Athletico Bilbao travel along the coast to fellow strugglers Celta Vigo. The Basque side are literally trying to fight their way out of trouble with their aggressive style of play resulting in plenty of cards. Its the cards market I like the look of here

🇪🇸 Celta Vigo v Athletico Bilbao (KO 8pm)

La Liga certainly isn’t shy of a booking or 8 and this match has caught my eye for a high card count.

No nonsense Bilbao lead the way in the card count in la La Liga with 59 yellow cards and 3 reds from their 17 league games. That’s a ridiculous number of cards for a team to have collected after just 17 games. (3.8 cards per match)

8 of their players have received 4 or more bookings this season and their style of play will ensure there are plenty of more bookings to come from this team come the end of the season.

Their matches v Celta Vigo certainly aren’t tame affairs – the last 6 matches have seen 36 cards with Bilbao receiving 3 or more cards in 9 of their last 10 visits here.

A brief look at the referee for this match and he has averaged over 5 cards per match this season – it should be another fierce affair.

The bookies are well aware of this though and are taking no changes having set markets at over 5.5 cards. That should land at 4/5 but going to go with the following:

    Recommended Bets:

•Both teams to have at least one corner each half and at least one booking each
•10/11 (Skybet request a bet) (NAP)
    •Athletico Bilbao -1 card
    •5/4 (Bet365)

    ****************************************************************************************************

There are two matches from the Development leagues to keep an eye out for

    🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿Burnley u23 v Sheffield Wednesday u23 (KO 2pm)

    •Over 3.5 match goals
    •10/11 (Bet365)
    🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿Airdrie Reserves v Ayr Reserves (KO 7.30pm)

    Over 3.5 match goals(awaiting prices)

    1) one boy took £2.40 and his payout his bet won £43,000

If there’s anything learnt by bettors over the years and that is a game of football can change in an instant. To cashout for £2.40 is criminal, having said that £2.40 maybe meant a lot to that particular individual. He must be crying into his cornflakes😠😠😠

I had £2 on a 7 horse Acca once the first 5 won cashout was £1800 I took £1200 and let £600 ride. The 6th horse lost (the 7th won). I just figured I’d already landed a 900-1 bet the chances of more were slim. I like the partial cashout option means you get a nice win with the chance of more.

    • Avatar of Joshua Jones-Young

saw 2 on twitter last night , 5k is a fair wack to anyone but nowhere near enough to change your life and for a £5 stake u have to let it run for 300k

cashout in my opinion is just another con for the bookies its always valued around 30% less than the true value which i think is disgracefull

feel for them but these lads as they will likely never come close to that type of return again but soemtimes people need to learn the hardway

    • Avatar of Mr Fixit

Cashout is for bookies, we all know that, but most punters like the option.

I agree with macca on this 1 and feel very sorry 4 the guy who cashed out for 2.40 as that obviously suggests he felt it was never going to win and he didn’t have much else to play with money wise.I prefer to hear about the wins from small punters with little stakes rather than those who win from huge stakes.Hope his luck changes.

    • Avatar of Alex Ewart
      alex_mufc83 6 years ago

but you could counter-argue that point with if £2.40 was really that valuable to him to cash out – should he be gambling in the first place?

    • Avatar of Dean Traynor
      shortee 6 years ago

Agree there Alex big time. Anyone cashing that out should not be gambling and I’m a strong believer of these lads who deposit deposit flat out and don’t look for value and just bet £10+ weekly on 100/1 plus shots. They won’t win and maybe lucky to hit once a year or even. Some of my mates are like that and are like why you putting £50 on an evens when can do £25 on 2 evens 🙈 try telling them it’s one less to worry about and the principle of it but it’s brick wall material.

But do agree cashing out £2.40 for that is criminal and again if putting £1 or £5 on them priced teams in the first place then you should let it run or else do shop paper bet.

    • Avatar of mark edley

Value doesn’t mean placing a bet at even money, value is when you have an edge over a bookie in any game of football.Sometime’s the odds give you clues and it’s wether you are sharp enough to read them.

    • Avatar of Sean Ireland
      sean ireland 6 years ago

Bit like saying the poor man shouldnt be allowed to dream and shoulder do the lotto Alex, 2.40 isn’t an option in cash out terms to most of us but perhaps to him at that time it was he thought it his only way of starting from scratch to keep a dream alive.I feel sorry for him rather than find his circumstance amusing is all im saying.Poor guy!

    • Avatar of Alex Ewart
      alex_mufc83 6 years ago

not saying that at all sean, everyone entitled to a flutter. just saying if it’s that imperative to cash out £2.40 when there’s £43K hanging in the balance maybe they don’t have the disposable income to be betting.
anyway, both lads will be wounded.

    • Avatar of Rich Bastable

For me as a wolves fan I wouldn’t be backing us tonight. If nuno follows his usual cup procedure then we’re likely to make up to 8/9 changes and there are rumours of some academy players playing.

The only caveat is that this season I think we will be safe in the prem and it may give cause to have a go at the cup…..

I’d like to see our line up before making a prediction.

What I would say is a couple of weeks ago Liverpool were immense against us. Salah and Virgil were something special. If they aren’t playing then we stand a chance depending on what team we field.

Didn’t overly get the hype around young Virgil until I watched him at our place…. my god he’s impressive

Wolves should be putting out a full team what a chance for them to knock out Liverpool. Not only that its a route to European football and a day or 2 out at Wembley for their fans. Leicester paid the price yesterday and their fans made it pretty clear too. Don’t understand teams doing this at all why not rotate the team in some league games. If both teams rotate I will be on Liverpool.

@Mr F/ Greg , any thoughts on Clyde, recent visits to Edinburgh and Peterhead have returned with maximum points! Jim Mclnally commented post game Clyde fully deserved their win at Balmoor! I know Greg often tips Clyde! Is squad strong enough to win league?

    • Avatar of Brian Hendry
      mr h 6 years ago

They’ve the best striker in the division in David Goodwillie and John Rankin is talented aswell but it’s any 1 from 3 and they’ll all fancy their chances of finishing top. Edinburgh City face 4 awaydays in their last 6,Clyde play 5 homes in their last 8 and Peterhead have 5 aways in their last 8. So if Clyde can continue their form then they’ve the easier run in when it comes too crunch time but it take a brave man too bet heavily on any of them

    • Avatar of Mr Fixit
      Mr Fixit 6 years ago

As Greg says it’s down to key men staying fit. Edinburgh and Peterhead have resources to bring in players so let’s see how the squads look at the end of the window.

  10. Avatar of Greg Browning
    GregBrowning 6 years ago

Squads at this level mate tend to be small and the clubs are relying on none of their keys players getting injured

They are flying at the moment Clyde – Danny Lennon pulled a masterstroke getting John Rankin in and retaining David Goodwillie. That was a huge win for them and now brings them right into the equation

I think its going to go right to the wire. Really difficult to call a winner out of those three teams.

Peterhead I feel will edge it, they certainly deserve it after coming so close so many times. They have a really really experienced side – they must have the highest average age in the league as most of their players have played at a higher level, they have goals in McAllister and have just signed Ryan Dow who is great addition

plenty of twists and turns ahead I think mate

    Afternoon gents,

It’s all about the bright lights of Essex for me this evening and I’ve got my usual Raquel’s white miniskirt and 8 inch stilettos on as I cruise down the M11 inthe old XR3i…

CHELMSFORD CITY VS. COGGESHALL TOWN (1945 KO):

Essex County Cup action here and I have a sneaking suspicion that there may just be a few goals on the radar at The Melbourne Stadium as Chelmsford play host to local rivals Coggeshall.

The sides sit around 15 mile apart from each other and play in the NLS and NL Div One respectively; both sides are having a pretty decent season with domestic positions of 3rd and 5th and goals counts to match.

Chelmsford have hit 2-2-5-2-2-1-3-3 team goals in their last successive 8 games whilst Coggeshall have notched at least an away goal in 8 of their own last 9 on the road – worth mentioning also that they have hit 2-3-4 and 5 team goals in 4 of those 9!

Chelmsford’s cup games are also worth a look; of the four they have played so far, there have been scorelines of 2-0, 4-0, 3-1 and 2-1 – I also couldn’t help notice that they absolutely smashed a strong (but inconsistent) Billericay side 5-1 on Boxing Day which shows their attacking capacity.

I can see both scoring here and sense it won’t stop there with potentially great value on 4 or more goals:

Liverpool: Mignolet, Camacho, Fabinho, Lovren, Moreno, Milner, Keita, Jones, Shaqiri, Sturridge, Origi.
Salah, Firmino and Mane among those on the bench.
Five changes for Wolves so half strength v reserves. Still tough to call but both to score looks a shout.

Hopefully back to winning ways from yesterday. Been on a bit of a poor run lately.
Cards always serve me well in the end and good value on cards IMO in Spain Tonight.

Greg has already spotted the cards potential in celta Vigo v Bilbao match. It should hopefully be rock solid for cards.
60 or more booking points evens at skybet.
Can easily see 6 or more cards in this match.

Bilbao rank in top 3 of collecting cards in la Liga. Celta Vigo are better disciplined however with both sides in poor positions in the table, 3 points will make a huge difference in potential relegation battles.

    Shaqiri > 1.5 shots 8/11
Working on the theory given the line ups he will take any free kicks (Alexander-Arnold on the bench) – and also likely to have at least one effort from around the edge of the box. Averages 1.5 shots in the EPL this season – and in some of those he came on as a sub.

SÃO CAETANO U20 VS. SANTOS U20 (2200 KO):

Sao Paulo Youth Cup pick of the day for me and it’s one with a history for plenty of goals!

The last 3 years have seen 5 H2H’s and with scorelines of 2-2, 5-1, 3-1, 6-2 and 2-3, prices look a touch on the generous side – Caetano’s last match may have seen a bore draw but I doubt this will be the same with Santos already posting a 5-1 victory on Friday.

    Dutch Eerste Divisie – Sunday

    Telstar v Helmond

This Sunday there is a full round of fixtures in the Eerste divisie. One fixture that jumps out to me is the Telstar v Helmond game. The home side is priced really short and I am not sure why.

Telstar only won 1 of their last 6 games and only won 1 of their last 5 home games. Telstar scored 22 goals and conceded 33 goals this season. 18 of these goals 22 were scored in the first 12 games of the season. Telstar had a couple of youngsters on loan who were really good at the beginning of the season, but it looks like none of them will star in the second half of the season. Striker Lescano has gone back to Parma, striker Seager will go back to Southampton and midfielder Kyle Scott is already back at Chelsea. That last player was really loved by the fans and they saw him as their best player. Due to an argument with the manager he is back in London now. It looks like these players were very important for this Telstar team in the beginning of the season.

Helmond Sport collected 7 points from their last 4 games. They only had 6 points before that 4 games. Helmond scored 20 goals in 19 and conceded 31. The big difference with Telstar is that Helmond drew 7 games (Telstar drew 1). Helmond will have most of their injured players back after the short winter break and I think they are too low in the table. I think the odds for this game are just wrong, Telstar should never be a 1.60 shot and I wouldn’t recommend to put money on that. Telstar were odds-on on two occasions this season. They were 1.48 when they beat Jong Utrecht who were bottom at the time and they were 1.80 in the cup game at AFC which they lost 5-0. I am not going to say Helmond will win this game, but at the prices you can have them on side with a win, a draw or get your stake back with a small loss. Telstar have won only 1 of their last 15 games by more than 1 goal.

Helmond Sport +1 asian handicap is the bet @ 1.82 with 188

Wells the Spanish game didn’t disappoint for cards but unbelievably the NAP
was done by Celta Vigo failing to get a second half corner 🙈 only the Bilbao -1 card landed at 5/4

Finished 2-5 on bookings so everything I posted in my write up happened apart from me trying to be smart and bringing corners into the bet

Every day is a School day as they say – will Definitely be keeping an eye out for bookings in Bilbao matches – that’s them up to 70 cards for the season 😂
