Top Football Tips

I COVERED my goals treble before Levante v Barcelona kicked off but I was still disappointed in the final score.

And I was even more frustrated when I thought I'd landed a 10.5pts winner when bet365 flashed up a Levante goal to make it 5-1 to Barcelona in the final minutes of injury time.

For 30 seconds I was counting my winnings and singing the praises of the 10 men before the goal was disallowed and joy turned to despair. Ironically the third leg of my treble was going to be over 2.5 match goals but that was too short at 1-4.

It illustrated to me the fine line between winning and losing and instead of almost getting back to evens for the month I'm struggling to return to profit.

My moneyback fivefold was well beaten as Arsenal and Celtic both lost so it was a frustrating day.

Liverpool as I said they would beat man United but I stand by my decision not to back them at 1-2. Maccathered disagreed with that because he expected a big win but he's a fan so thinks differently and well done to Greg who tipped Man United to beat their goal time.

Well done to all the winners and let's look ahead to Monday's card where Derby v Nottingham Forest is the big game.

Derby fan nathan is planning a preview and I've posted one where I tip a draw.

Other games include Atalanta v Lazio and Deportivo v Athletic Bilbao – check out kevinmac's preview on the Spain game – as well as the Southport v Tranmere replay in the FA Cup.

Nothing stand out for me today so it apart from maybe a small stake on draws at Derby and Alaves I'll be concentrating on keeping up with my Record Sport colleagues at our Xmas lunch. Check in much later.

Remember to look at welovebetting for their tips and video chat.

    FC Cologne v Magdeburg
Simon Terodde to score./Cologne win @ 8/11 paddypower
Only site that has this price up at the mo but may become available on others tomorrow. Mentioned this guy many moons ago and have noticed hes scored 7 in last 4 making it 24 from 17 games this season.Fully expect Cologne { 2nd in table and top scorers 42/16 } to win comfortably against a side 2nd bottom with only 1 win from 16 and losing 5/7 winning none.

    Scottish Premier League

Massive two weeks coming up in Scotlands top flight before the winter break.

    1st – Rangers, played 17, 34pts
    2nd – Kilmarnock, played 18, 34pts
    3rd – Celtic, played 16, 33pts
    4th – Aberdeen, played 17, 30pts

    Rangers – Hibs (a), St J (a), Hibs (h), Celtic (h)
    Kilmarnock – Hamilton (a), Motherwell (a), St J (h)
    Celtic – Motherwell (h), Dundee (h), Aberdeen (a), Rangers (a)
    Aberdeen – Dundee (h), Hearts (h), Celtic (h), Livi (a)

Rangers face four tough games, there will be dropped points somewhere and i feel if we go into the winter break within a few points then we will be in a good place. Well needed winter break after a hectic schedule, chance to recruit some quality to help the league/cup challenge.

Kilmarnock have played more games but are keeping up with the pace, three winable games especially the two home games, again if they can be within a few points, galvanise and focus on the league they could spring a surprise.

Celtic, the champions started the season poorly, hit top form but have dipped again, injuries have affected them but that cant be an excuse with the luxuries they have compared the rest of Scottish football, should take care of their two home games then two tough away games to finish 2019. They will be looking at going into the New Year on top, putting out a statement to the rest of the teams.

Aberdeen started the season very slowly but they have been chipping away and moving up the table, if they managed to beat St J last week they would be sitting right up there. With 3 home games they will be looking to take advantage, especially with the game against Celtic, win to get back into the scene and gain revenge after the cup final defeat.

I am interested in peoples honest opinions on an entertaining end to 2019.

I think Gerrard will already have his players lined up and it wouldn’t surprise me if Rangers take Solanke on loan,he’s far to good not to be playing but he doesn’t stand much chance of playing for his current team on their current form.He left Chelsea for the reason he wasn’t getting any football so for me this is one to look out for especially as this is where Rangers are struggling. If Celtic get past the next round of the uefa cup then they will find it hard domestically also so Rangers could capitalise in this.

    • Avatar of Sean Campbell
      sean567 6 years ago

With Celtic only having 1 striker at the moment it wouldn’t be a surprise to see us in for solanke. Rangers play 1 up front and he’s the top scorer in the league so not sure they would drop him to accommodate a loanee.

    • Avatar of Mr Fixit
      Mr Fixit 6 years ago

Rangers need back-up to Morelos for when he’s suspended. Also pretty sure if Liverpool allow Solanke to go to Scotland it will only be to one team.

    • Avatar of Sean Campbell
      sean567 6 years ago

That was my thinking- if he want to rangers he’d be back up and swapping on bench for another whereas Celtic share out the striking duties, plus rangers already have lafferty as back up and gerrard was in your paper just yesterday bemoaning the fact he’s got major funds tied up in players who aren’t gonna play so is solanke affordable? I’m not saying it’s gonna happen, just that I wouldn’t rule it out. Money talks and we know who has the most

    • Avatar of Mr Fixit
      Mr Fixit 6 years ago

The Gerrard factor is likely to mean Solanke won’t be going to Celtic.
Lafferty’s not really done it for Rangers so they do need a striker – although as you say Celtic need one more.

    • Avatar of Brian Hendry
      mr h 6 years ago

Macca Rangers aren’t good enough too win the league, I told you this at the start of the season and I’ll reiterate it now, his footballing abilities won’t win him titles and his transfer dealings have been questionable….Sadiq,Ejarie,Worral,Flanagan, Gresda, Barasic are poor while the rest still have the jury out. Gerrard won’t win a league title in Scotland before he toddles off back south 👍🏻

Aberdeen – slow start after a cupla good showings against Burnley. Slowly climbing the table but lack the firepower too get back into title talk. Lost yet another cup final.

Verdict – win nothing as usual and top 4 but if they can find a striker that’ll score regularly they can go higher than 4th

Celtic – Been a stuttering season so far with a slow start domestically, however despite not hitting the heights of the previous 2yrs the first domestic trophy is in the bag yet again. Just a point of the top with games in hand. Attacking options will be added in January after Dembeles late departure and Griffiths personal problems

Verdict – Champions again and a possible treble for a 3rd consecutive year.

Hearts – started like a train and steamed clear at the top with just 1 loss in their first 11. Losing Lafferty too Rangers & Naismith too injury will cost them any chance of a top 3 finish. Levein chops and changes far too often.

Verdict – top half finish and possibly push for top 4.

Hibs – Scotlands best football side have been the biggest disappointment of the season despite having the best centre half and best attacking players in the country 🤥 although they’ve struggled with injuries they’ve a big enough squad too cope better than they have.

Verdict – must do better, top 4 achievable

Kilmarnock – I’d love too say the surprise of the season but I’ve hardly been surprised after Clarke turned things around last season. Sitting proudly at the top albeit having played more games. Solid side in all areas of the park and cause every team in the league problems home & away.

Verdict – top half finish and if they can stay clear of injuries and suspension top 3 is attainable.

Rangers – decent first season from Gerrard with a good Euro run but his signings leave a lot to be desired. Sitting nicely in second place and will be hoping too add some much needed creativity too a midfield osvked with slugger. Morales is a liability despite his goals,Rangers should cash in and reinvest.

Verdict – finish second and perhaps get themselves into a first cup final since that defeat too Hibs

Top 3 League positions come may….

      Celtic
      Rangers
      Killie

      Scottish Cup winners Celtic.

Be celebrating at least a double in May and perhaps a treble Treble 🍀

Big games for all teams in the next couple of weeks but no team is showing any consistency and that’s why it’s so close.

From a Rangers point of view they need to add a number 10 in January along with a striker but whether that happens remains to be seen.

Mac’s might have an opinion on this but if Solanke is to go to Glasgow i doubt Celtic will sign him.

nb if anyone inside Ibrox has a brain of any sort they will resign Steven Davis, quality player who knows what it’s all about up here.

As for Solanke he’s a gamble too bring into the must win environment of the Glasgow fishbowl and for that reason yos are welcome too him. I’d rather take Defoe for 6 months than Solanke tbh

      nb89 6 years ago

Mr H with regards to Davis from the bits I’ve heard I think that will happen.

We just need to wait until January to see what happens. I don’t think signing Solanke would be a gamble for Rangers if it happens.

    • Avatar of Brian Hendry
      mr h 6 years ago

Unless Gerrard changes his playing style then do you think Solanke is going too leave one bench for another or are we saying he’ll be replacing Morales? Louis Moult would be a cheaper option that’s tried and tested in the rough and tumble of Scottish football, Lawrence Shankland is also a viable option with less financial risk but he will be overlooked and no doubt head for England and become too expensive in future.

Going too be a very interesting January…. Celtic need strikers and Rangers need creativity

    • Avatar of Barry Anderson

No Christie through injury, Boyata the main man at the back for Celtic out, Rogic, Tierney,Griffiths out to. I think Brendan Rodgers is giving a few a rest at the moment with the Rangers game in mind. We do need a Striker as Edouward is becoming a bit lazy and leggy as no pressure on him for Strikers roll at the moment. Most of Celtic team play for Scotland and have had many high pressure games, rogic has been away with his national team Australia, these are all factors in The Celtic team at the moment. Still two games in hand so this is the time to rest players before Rangers game an then go Fullsteam again and hopefully Ryan Christie back as he is the one player who lifted the team when they were going through a very bad spell, he gives the team that spark and the team move the ball a lot quicker when he is in the team.

Aberdeen will prob lose to Celtic and cant see them taking 3pts at Livvy.Should win the other 2.Rangers could easily lose 3 of those games Hibs twice and Celtic they will really have to shore that defence up quick. Why Gerard is not giving Lee Wallace a run is beyond me.Celtics 2 big games are Dons and GERS if they win those 2 then it could be curtains.Dont think the Europa league will have a big issue for Celtic not till mid FEB. and fair chance they will only play last 32 rd.Killie will fizzle out eventually me thinks.

MONDAY’S are always busy days with SPFL reserve and English u23 development games (No Belgian games today sadly). Its the SPFL i’ll be focusing on and a team who did the business for us last time out

Motherwell Reserves v Dundee United Reserves (KO 2pm)

    It’s been a terrific campaign for Motherwell so far – played 10 – W8 D1 L1

They’ve won 5 on the spin which included 5-1 and 6-1 hammerings of Dunfermline and St Johnstone with the latter their last match as they tore us to shreds.

They must enjoy playing at Stirling Albions Forthbank as they have won all 5 matches played there this season and they welcome a United side who have become the leagues whipping boys having conceded 22 goals in just 7 league matches this season.

Their last 5 games have seen 6 / 7 / 7 /6 /5 goals scored and with them up against a rampant Motherwell side today, you have to fear that their goals against column will be added to.(currently averaging 4.9 goals per match)

They have scored though in their last 9 matches and that should support the goals count today.

Motherwell I’d expect will continue their fantastic run of results with plenty of goals in todays match from both sides.

Bet365 have been offering extensive markets inplay for these games this season so keep an eye for Motherwell team goals if it appears

    Recommended Bet

    •Over 3.5 Match goals
    •1/1 (Skybet) (NAP)
    •Over 1.5 First Half Goals
    •Price will appear inplay

    Valenciennes v Metz (KO 7.45pm)

High flying Metz will be looking to tighten their grip at the top of Ligue 2 as they travel to lowly Valenciennes

They have conceded though in 8 of their last 10 away matches and whilst id expect them to win this, the hosts will make it tough.

Valenciennes have seen both sides score in 5 of their last 6 home games and it takes a brave man to back an away side in this league.

I’m taking both sides to score here

    Recommended Bet
    •Both teams to score
    •10/11 (Ladbrokes)

Its all about the famous Perth St Johnstone :)

It was a horror weekend for us, win and we go joint 4th 3 points off the top, we lost and Aberdeen, Hibs, Livi, Rangers and killie all won putting us 7th. Its such a competitive league this year.

    1. Celtic
    2. Rangers
    3. ?
    4. ?
    5. ?
    6. ?
    7. ?
    8. Livingston
    9. Motherwell
    10. Dundee
    11. Hamilton
    12. St Mirren

Both Celtic and Rangers will strength in Jan and there is no doubt in my mind that will be the top two

3-7th though is anyone’s guess – its going to change every week

Kilmarnock have enjoyed a fantastic season so far, would be incredible for them to still be up there come May. I don’t think they’ll finish as high as 3rd, that would mean finishing above, Hearts ,Hibs and Aberdeen, all of which have bigger squads and will strengthen in Jan .

Killie will want to consolidate top 6 and take it from there.

As for Hibs, two big wins brings them right back into the mix, Aberdeen are winning without playing well, Hearts are up there due to their great start to the season but have been brutal since Celtic knocked them out of the league cup back in October. Yes they’ve missed key players through injury so be interesting to see how they get on in the transfer window.

Right now, you have to say Aberdeen look most likely to finish 3rd, that’s no disrespect to Killie who wont be far off.

Livingston’s away form isn’t good enough for them to push up higher than they are, they’ll need to settle for 8th, probably a place below St Johnstone who would have had a shout at top 6 hadn’t it been for Steve Clarke

We have Rangers, St Mirren, Dundee and Livi in out next 4 games. if we want to still be in the mix come the end of Jan, we need a minimum of 7 points. Some clubs have really tough games coming up, ours isn’t looking to bad (no Celtic, no Rangrs, no Aberdeen, no killie etc) although they will still be extremely tough games but winnable.

Should be a cracking second half to the season and the most competitive season in a long long time

It’s a fair draw when you consider the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Napoli, Inter were amongst the seeds. Valencia should be winning this over the 2 legs but I’ve seen worse Celtic teams beat better teams than Valencia at home. Let’s not forget Man City couldn’t topple us home or away and we’ve progressed from a group that had RB Leipzig and Redbull Salzburg in it….both of whom are better teams than Valencia. Reinforcements will be had in attack before the games come around. All in all happy with the draw and our prospects of progression

Early post for Fridays Premier League clash Wolves v Liverpool.

We’ve hit a bit of a resurgence and are starting to adapt our game a bit better to face our opposition. Friday sees Liverpool travel to Molineux and I can’t wait.

We’ve started our run by beating (deservedly so) Chelsea and it’s fair to say that we are better against the better teams

    Man City H – draw
    Man Utd A – draw
    Arsenal A – draw
    Chelsea H – draw

The only what I’d call top 6 club to have beaten us is spurs at home (2-3) and in honesty we deserved a point from that game.

We’re looking better. Defensively we’re tight and going forward our shape is better.

Liverpool are a great team, no doubt about it and this season they have tightened up defensively and obviously Salah is a major threat. If we can keep him quiet (I’d say this task will fall to Willy Boly) then we could get something from the game.

I’m sure I’ll get some opposition to this but my NAP this week is Wolves not to lose at 13/8 on bet 365. 5 points.

It’s a fair point Wolves raise their game for the big guns,i just don’t think they will have enough to stop us,one goal against and the flood gates could open,i have watched Wolves a lot this season and i have to say defensively at times they have been awful, again it’s if they can stop Liverpool scoring and i doubt they will of course for me it’s a comfortable away win but you never know.

    • Avatar of Rich Bastable
      richb20806 6 years ago

It’s true. But the last 3 games were a lot more controlled defensively. The whole shape and structure had adapted a bit. My view is that we held City to a draw and for me theyre one of the top teams in Europe and easily the top team in the Prem.

Fancy us to get a point to be fair. Saying that wouldn’t be surprised to see you thrash us. I guess every newly promoted team will get a thrashing from a big gun so it could happen Friday lol…

Still sticking with my not to lose prediction though haha

    • Avatar of mark edley
      maccathered 6 years ago

For me Wolves will need the ball to be able to do anything. If Wolves attack Liverpool they will lose hands down.City are good but i wouldn’t say they aren’t beatable.I mean Liverpool beat them regular its nothing new.I do love the Wolves fans confidence.Right now though Liverpool are a force to be reckoned with and Wolves will certainly have their work cut out.

    ————
    Celtic v Hibs >2.5 mgls
    Killie v Partick >2.5mgls
    St J v Hamilton >2.5 mgls
    Dundee 2+ tgls
Rangers win and BTTS (v Hearts)

    Just over 11/1 Ladbrokes

M’we V Dundee Utd not on Ladbrokes or Betway, maybe Greg’s thousands on it…😉

Looked a wee bit into the league, and opted for Dundee goals instead of overs as QOS have only been part of 15 goals in 6 matches. Also Looking at Rangers who are top having scored most goals and best goal difference in league, to beat the wee Hearts (who are sitting in mid table, but will have players who will want to show they can step up in place of the shambles that wore the maroon shirts on Friday, as well as feeling the general backlash in training) who may have a goal in them.

    Afternoon gents,

Close to a Bolivian bonanza last night but was regally shafted by Royal Pari failing to convert the overs despite all other coming in for the 4/1 and 22/1…swines…anyone on should have been able to cashout for a considerable profit given the hslf-time scorelines but I didn’t 🤨

Onto today and I’m focusing on a Northern Challenge Cup match in North Yorkshire…

HARROGATE TOWN VS. GUISELEY (1945 KO):

Harrogate Town are flying high after their promotion campaign and currently occupy an impressive 3rd place in The National League – their recent home form in particular has been notable with 2-4-3-1-4 team goals featuring in their 4 wins and a draw that make up the last 5 games at The CNG Stadium.

Guiseley can’t claim the same form and are without a win in 5 having 4 losses, 6 draws and the aforementioned defeat as part of their most recent 11 games in all competition.

Despite that run, they do carry a goal threat and can add to the match goal tally here having done just that in each of the last 5 matches; in fact, if you look at both teams last collective 5 games, there have been a total of 37 goals offering up an average of 3.7 goals per game.

H2H’s are dominated by Guiseley victories but to be fair to Harrogate, all of those games were before their engagement in ‘full time’ contracts began in 2016 and the more recent club aspiration is clear to see as they continue upwards towards league football proper.

One selection to consider in what could be a lively encounter:

    OVER 3.5 MGS…6/5

Bit of a low-stakes interest bet for sny afternoon punters…

OHOD VS. AL QUADISIYA (1520 KO):

Saudi Premier League game featuring bottom side hosts Ohod but given the last 3 H2H’s saw 5-3-3 goals and visiting side Al Quadisiya have found a bit of form of late, then prices look to have a bit of appeal:

Hi Paul, wee request. Had a bet with 365 on a Firmino assist for Liverpool yesterday @4/1. Watching and checking on Livescore he assisted the last goal. Settled as loser, queried it, got sent some long email about a decisive touch as they use OPTA. Shaqiri’s shot deflected but dont see decisive touch from Firmino to Shaqiri. Had a few quid so worth getting it especially at this time of year. Do you have any clout with them as they have loads of markets and usually great website to bet with.

    • Avatar of Sean Campbell
      sean567 6 years ago

There definitely wasn’t one from firminios pass, but as it took a deflection on the way in apparently that counts as the assist. I had firminio as captain on my ff team this week and was raging he wasn’t given it! Absolute nonsense!

    • Avatar of mark edley
      maccathered 6 years ago

It is nonsense,i’m sure when the dubious goals panel reviews the goals the assist will be given to firmihno.
