Noren is odds-on favourite but for me it's a 50-50 call so big-hitting American Finua is the value bet at 6-4. These are the sentiments of the Drogheda manager ahead of hosting Galway tonight in the ROI 2nd tier. Drogheda have started in blistering fashion, dispatching two of the weaker sides emphatically (6-0 v Athlone, 8-1 v Wexford). In the pre-season friendlies, they also netted against all 3 Irish Premier opposition.
Galway themselves have started the season unbeaten. They beat Athlone 4-1, Cabinteely 3-1 and picked up a decent draw on the road at UCD (1-1). They were fairly quiet when winning 1-0 in the cup in midweek, but by all accounts this appears to be an early season meeting between two sides that should fight for the title.
This game has screamed out at me all day, but my only reservation has been that Galway top scorer Danny Furlong, who has scored 6 already this season, missed the midweek cup game and is still a doubt for tonight.
Had this not been the case, I would’ve been all over the game, but I’m reducing my stakes to account for this.

I get what you say about friendlies and what not but I think i’m gonna drop a £10 on England/Argentina/Germany – it pays over 14/1 on betfair.
Reasoning.
Holland have failed to qualify for their last 2 major tournaments and even when they had the likes of Sneiderline and Robben, they still failed to qualify. Losing to Bulgaria 2 nil in WC qualifying was the sucker punch that sunk them. Holland are in a place right now where they have no motivation other than to see if they can find a few gems amongst their ranks – the younger players coming through to fill their squad. Its rebuild time tonight. So even if they lose, if the manager sees some potential in a few new faces, he’ll have a platform to build on. England on the other hand are really ” fine tuning “. We’ve qualified, we can’t be playing also rans in the lead up to the WC, we have to play half decent teams because if we don’t, we’ll again come unstuck come the main tournament. We have enough experience to push Holland aside and with some players playing tonight, if they don’t perform, chances are, they could lose their spot on the plane to Russia.
Argentina – as Mrfixit has already stated, they have a plethora of top quality players already playing in the Premier league + Messi….. He seems to be there or there abouts back to the player we know he is at club level. Never really set the world alight at international though, but if the opposition mark him out of the game, there’s 4 or 5 other Argentines that will mop up the scraps whilst they’re busy chasing Messi’s shadow.
Germany…. I should really just say ” because they’re Germany ! “. That wouldn’t do the trick, so I shall enlighten the forgetful. The semi final slaughter they laid on against Brazil in Brazil and then lifting the holy grail of football trophys, the WC. But cast your mind back to last year – The confederations cup. Joakim Low left all of his heavy hitters at home and raided the U21’s side – They duly obliged by winning the Tournament – with U21’s !! Not convinced ? The U21’s tournament and the U17’s tournament was run almost at the same time – give or take a few weeks, the U21’s squad had been stripped bare because they we’re filling the shoes of the main squad, so the U21’s added a few faces from the younger age group. The U21 ‘s won their tournament. With the U17’s squad stripped right back, they had to find new faces – god knows from where, BUT the U17’s ALSO won their tournament. That’s 3 age group tournaments with reserves/U21’s. Germany should dominate world football for the next 4+ years.
Tonight is a friendly, but with so many young players capable of stepping up to that next level, Joakim Low must really have his head in a spin as to who he takes to Russia. His players will know this. Good performance usually means a win, they have players with an abundance of talent and tonight I fully expect them to put on a show of strength, we’re only around 4 months from Russia. Now is not a time for players to bottle it.

Just a few thoughts on Poland v Nigeria. A virus has hit some of the polish team and they are playing some players from polish ekstraklasa and it’s a mixed line up. Playing 3 in defence which we never usually do so we may struggle in defence as we usually play 4 at the back. Lewandowski and Zieliński start so in attack we should get on the score sheet. Obviously as it’s a friendly anything goes but I think the following may be good shouts if anyone is interested.
