Welcome back to MFT’s 10-1,000 betting challenge, where we aim for a 100x return on the original investment via a small stake betting strategy, prioritising low risk and low odds en route to a long-term target.
While this column is dedicated to high-probability tips, there is no guarantee of profit. If playing along, you should consider your own budget and confidence in the tip provided, and make your own decision whether to follow, cash out or continue at every stage. 18+, please gamble responsibly.
We will use a unit system for our stakes, allowing readers to set their own unit value that suits their own budget. For the sake of simplicity, for us, 1 unit = £1.
We will continue to transparently track our progress as far as we go on the path to 1,000, but will refresh our main tracking stake back to the starting point every time we surpass 100 units – a 10x ROI.
For the sake of consistency, all tips are placed using odds from bet365. It worth pointing out that with Bet365 we can paid out if our selection goes into a lead by two or more goals.
Middlesbrough lost the match but still secured the goal we needed for the win. We now move to Sweden and a game that looks goal heavy.
Bet 14 – Goteborg v Elfsborg– Sunday 23rd August at 1pm
Over 1.5 goals has landed in 16 of Goteborg's 17 league matches this season, a 94% hit rate, making their results one of the strongest goals trends in the division. Each of their previous eight home fixtures has also cleared the line, with those games averaging 2.75 goals. A 1-0 defeat against Hammarby in May is the only recent home result to fall short.
The wider goals data supports the same argument. Goteborg have gone over 2.5 goals in 10 of 17 league matches, a 59% rate, while both teams have scored in 10 of 17. Across their previous eight at Gamla Ullevi, they have failed to score in only 17% but also kept clean sheets in just 17%.
Their underlying numbers explain why goals regularly arrive at both ends. Goteborg average 1.61 xG and 18 shots per home game, scoring in seven of their past eight, but they also concede 1.37 xGA and 2.12 big chances. They have allowed at least two goals in 11 of their 17 league fixtures.
Elfsborg possess enough attacking quality to exploit those weaknesses, averaging 1.36 xG per away match. Over 1.5 goals has landed in five of their previous eight on the road, a 62% rate, while their season totals stand at eight of 17 for over 2.5 goals and 11 of 17 for both teams to score.
Elfsborg have kept clean sheets in four of their past eight away games, so a goal for Goteborg is not automatic. Their hosts' 1.61 xG average, 18 shots per game and 83% scoring rate at home still provide strong support.
With over 1.5 goals landing in 94% of Goteborg's league matches, the lower line remains the strongest selection.
