ASIDE from the early Icelandic betting days and the never-to-be-topped NZ Youth matches a few years back one of the biggest cash-cows has been the Bolivian top flight.
One team in particular have achieved cult status in my notebook … the mighty Wilstermann.
Such was their success I decided to show my appreciation with a subtle “Viva Wilstermann” tattoo on my right shoulder blade.
Craneguy wanted in on the Bolivian “tat” act too and in a drunken moment of sincerity he had a giant “Up the Strongest” inked on to his sphincter muscle.
Jorge have ripped up the domestic form and single-handedly bridged the La Paz power struggle between Bolivar and The Strongest this last 18 months and have done so without the bookies really giving them the credit they deserve.
Will they fair as well this campaign? Time will tell but they have invested heavily in infastructure and the tail end of the most recent season showed no signs of a let-up in capacity.
Tonight’s visitors are Blooming in name but not form – they conceded 4-3-3-4 in their last 4 but did string together a decent run prior to that albeit against primarily weaker opposition than the team they face tonight.
Jorge have put 6 team goals past them already in 2018 (3-1 and 3-0) and will no doubt be looking to get off to a flyer once again.
