Huddersfield Town vs Burnley
English Premier League. Kick-off: 7.45pm, Wednesday 2nd January.
THE weekend couldn't have gone much worse for Huddersfield as events left them marooned at the foot of the table and five points from safety.
It looked like lady luck would smile on the Terriers when Fulham striker Aboubakar Kamara refused to hand the ball over to Aleksandar Mitrovic for a late penalty then had his effort saved by Jonas Lossl.
That infuriated both Claudio Ranieri and this humble tipster, who had backed Fulham to win and Mitrovic to score first, but thankfully the big Serbian striker delivered in the last minute to spare Kamara's blushes and fill my pockets.
It was a savage blow for Huddersfield though and when Burnley claimed a surprise win over West Ham just 24 hours later it capped a dreadful weekend.
Now they can ill afford another defeat against a fellow struggler when Burnley come to Yorkshire for a relegation six-pointer.
Despite their horror weekend, Huddersfield are still the slight 6/5 favourites for this one with 888 Sport who have Burnley at 27/10 and the draw at 43/20.
With the Terriers losing their last seven games, the price on Burnley seems generous, even though the Clarets have won just once on the road in the league all season.
Both teams have struggled for goals but there's little value to be had there, with both teams not to score just 3/4 and under 2.5 match goals a measly 11/20 with 888 Sport.
It may be better to back a 1-0 win for either side, with Huddersfield available at 21/4 and Burnley at 15/2 with 888 Sport.
Youngster Dwight McNeil scored in the win over West Ham and could keep his place up front. If he starts he could be worth a bet at 13/1 for first scorer or 13/2 for anytime scorer with 888 Sport.
This one could be settled by a set-piece so Burnley's James Tarkowski (19/1 first scorer, 19/2 anytime scorer) and Huddersfield's Terence Kongolo (22/1 and 11/1 in the same markets) might be worth a speculative punt.
Recommended bets
- Burnley to win 27/10 (888 Sport)
- Dwight McNeil anytime scorer 13/2 (888 Sport)
- Terence Kongolo anytime scorer 11/1 (888 Sport)
Very good write up, McNeil was very impressive against West Ham and should get the nod against Huddersfield after his stellar performance, we could have scored 5 or 6 against the hammers but unfortunately not prolific enough up top. Westwood bossed the midfield and that game was by far the best I’ve seen him in Burnley shirt. Fully agree a tight game with little goal action, neither side can afford to lose this and should be a game of very few chances. Expect neither side to throw too many bodies forward in the early stages.
My recommendation
No goal before 35 mins 5/6 365 👍
Congratulations on another big win at the bottom. Burnley made me a sweat a little when Brady was sent off but they thankfully held on. Was the only tip I got right all night!
