It's always annoying to land a nice winner without so much of a place to go with it but not a great deal was lost and we can march forward into the week with the racing to come looking promising.
Today I was late home and have thrown in a ‘place-banker', I was happy enough with High Violet whilst Regency Lad is more than capable of placing given 5 are paid but I would recommend a market check given his price is much bigger on Skybet. The final selection may well prove our undoing but he is very easy to swap out given my lack of certainty.
Attacanter Racing Tips
Estrange 5/2 four places – 15.30 Yarmouth
Estrange was put up here on debut when she was the easiest winner of the day and off of that I am throwing caution to the wind and including her at this price.
It was soft at Goodwood that day, a Class 2 race which was either really bad, or this horse is well worthy of her inclusion today, stepped up into Listed company. Given her price tag as a yearling, she should be well capable.
Her nearest rival is 11/2 so the extra place on offer would normally force me to look further down the card, especially with some of the trainers involved in this contest. I wouldn't be too keen to slap a single on her, her inclusion is more warranted than many I chance at prices.
High Violet 13/2 – 14.00 Yarmouth
High Violet caught my eye in the opener despite given the Ryan/Loughnane combination. I often chance the obscure so I thought we were entitled to go with the tried and tested tandem.
I don't like to discount horses too easily so the fact this Mehmas filly hasn't shown too much on her previous two starts since being raised 6lbs a win at Leicester in July.
High Violet actually beat the current Haggas favourite that day, I trust the market in this instance but that race had plenty of winners in it so I am happy to take our chances she can return to form today with Rossa booked.
Regency Boy 9/1 five places – 13.40 Beverley
When I first saw this race I thought it looked perfect to dig one out from but my mind is quite torn, given a lack of value, or too much to take on chance, I have settled on Regency Boy to put in another solid performance back here at Beverley.
He was a neck 2nd that day behind a horse who hasn't won but has put in a good few very consistent efforts since. Three Platoon was in behind, a horse I am convinced is capable despite failing for us recently. The 4th and 5th's form looks very solid for the grade.
The trainer had just one winner over Sept/Oct last year which isn't great, the horse is almost twice the price on Skybet which makes it hard to advise at this price. Sticking with my original selection, Have You a Minute may well have been safer, fearing the Tom Eaves opening double.
Drawn on the inside, I suspect he will break well and have a prominent position allowing him to attack and hopefully be good enough to remain in the thick of things now dropping a furlong.
Greenway Machine 9/1 four places – 16.45 Tramore
I am going to chance the selection based on his recent good form even though he is getting on a bit in age and a third run so soon, now losing a valuable 7lbs claimer could easily prove his undoing. I am willing to believe the trainer will be keeping him up to his business and have him ready up against some much younger prospects.
I do have slight concern we are slightly late to the party, the horse placed twice at big prices so perhaps his fees are paid for but there is still potential for him to outrun his odds given his proven stamina – the face he isn't carrying much weight in this either was probably the best thing I could find he had going for it.
*Advised Bet – Eachway L15*
WHAT IS A LUCKY 15 BET?
A Lucky 15 bet consists of 15 unique bets, covering every possible combination that comes from backing four selections. The 15 bets are broken down like this:
– 1 fourfold accumulator
– 4 trebles, with each treble omitting one of your selections
– 6 doubles, again covering every possible combination
– 4 singles
The attraction of a Lucky 15 is that it offers many more ways to win than a standard accumulator. A Lucky 15 uses both your acca and your singles as well as producing trebles and doubles that reward you for correctly calling 2/4 or 3/4 of your selections. To cover the 15 separate bets, a Lucky 15 uses your stake 15 times. If you were to place £1 on a Lucky 15, you would be staking £15 in total across the various bets.
