Saturday's Lucky 15 was decimated with two non-runners, making it a joke of a bet.
Tahcawin 13/2 (3pl) – Curragh 2.10
At this sort of level, Big Gossey is a very consistent performer. He arrives at this race with a good effort last time out, and there's every chance that he will be too good for the younger horses, but he has to give a lump of weight away.
Ger Lyons' twice-raced horse is interesting, but this is a step up. Tahcawin felt like a solid selection in this at an each-way price. She has progressed on every run this year, and I like it when the rating of the performance goes up every start.
She ran well to finish third in a Listed race last time, when not benefitting from a hold-up ride. Chances are that she'll be ridden like last time, but hopefully they go a good gallop, and the deceivingly stiff finish at the Curragh helps her out.
Coastguard Station 13/2 (3pl) – Uttoxeter 2.52
With Coastguard Station being a previous winner of this race, he has to be up the list if you're having a bet.
In his most recent runs, he has been running over longer, and it hasn't suited him. I tipped up a horse in a race he finished behind Numitor over 2m 5f, and the way he moved through the race, I thought it was a matter of how many lengths he was going to win. His stamina isn't anywhere near as strong as it is over two miles, so I believe this drop in trip is going to be massive for him.
Peaky Boy 14/1 (4pl) – Uttoxeter 3.27
The horse at the top of the market has to be respected for good connections, and he's in good form, but I felt like every horse is too high in the handicap. The one who wasn't was Peaky Boy.
Based on his form for Nicky Henderson, Peaky Boy is at least 10lbs better than what we've seen since he has been at Jonjo's yard. He is still only an eight-year-old, so there's time for him to rediscover his old form, and if today is that day, 14/1 is a nice enough price.
Bold Endeavour 14/1 (3pl) – Uttoxeter 4.03
Another horse who has seen his form drop off massively is Bold Endeavour. It's crazy to think that he is a ten-year-old, as he hasn't had a lot of racing for his age.
I tipped him up in the Pertemps Final at Cheltenham, and I was very sweet on him that day. James Bowen did not get a great tune out of him, and he jumped every hurdle in poor style. He has had two runs since, and he hasn't covered himself in glory.
Nicky Henderson and the owner pulled the plug and shifted him on, and he's making his stable debut for Chris Honour. If the change of scenery has brought him back to life, he is sat on a very dangerous handicap mark, and with Chris not having many runners this summer (3), I found it interesting he was quick to pitch him into a good race.
