I'd be lying if I were to say I saw the races live for the Lucky 15, as I was busy doing bits and bobs. Two were placed, and one unseated when in second place.
Thewoodcorner 15/8 – Huntingdon 1.45
I think it's always a tough task to carry a penalty in maiden/novice races, but in juvenile races, I think it's definitely doable.
Juvenile hurdle races, you see a lot of them transition from the flat, and a lot of them don't jump particularly well early into their hurdling careers.
Thewoodcorner was poor on his debut, but redeemed himself on his second run a month ago. It turns out that the form is quite good, with a couple of the horses in behind winning since.
Snapius 6/1 – Huntingdon 4.15
Slowly but surely, Snapius' handicap mark has tumbled down to a very winnable rating.
He is running off a mark of 98, but it's effectively 95 with Alex Chadwick removing 3lbs with his claim. That has put him below his last winning handicap mark which came in December 2024.
He started the season off well with a solid third at Leicester on his comeback run, but then started to drop in form. Last time out was a small return to form, as he finished second of eight. If he can build on that performance, he is a live player in a poor race.
Sparkling Duke 11/4 – Ffos Las 3.00
Kayley Woollacott is having a great season, and Sparkling Duke has been a horse who has supplied two of her wins, including last time out a month ago.
He finished seventh after his first win, but he then put that right by winning in emphatic style on heavy ground at this track. This track seems to bring the best out of him, with him being 2/2 at the track since moving to Kayley's yard in November.
He won by seven lengths last time out, and did it without breaking a sweat, so there's every reason to believe there is still more to come, especially at Ffos Las.
Dj Pete 5/2 – Ffos Las 3.30
I am slightly surprised that Dj Pete isn't the favourite for this race, as he won at this track last time out and beat a horse who was on a winning streak.
I think course form is huge, and the fact that he handles heavy ground as well is massive, considering the ground is just as bad for today.
To add to this, he was second at this course and distance to Jaipaletemps, who is now rated 119 but was 101 with a 10lb claimer when they met that day.
