Racing Tips Zoffandia will step forward from debut at Carlisle

Mezzo Soprano ran very green on reappearance and was ultimately her own worst enemy throughout. She moved into contention quite well into the straight despite running green and if not for an awkward head carriage, she may have got the job done. She still looks like a nice horse and will come on bundles for that reappearance, so is maybe worth another chance on her next outing.

Mondammej never got involved and there isn't much more to say about that one.

Royal Ascot starts on Tuesday but we've one more day to wait before the big meeting commences. I'll not be heavily involved with racing on Monday, so it's a single selection from me to start the week.

Zoffandia 15/8 – Carlisle 4.30

My sole selection comes from the meeting at Carlisle on Monday in the shape of Zoffandia.

I stuck him in my tracker only a few weeks ago when he made his race course debut at Nottingham in a class 5 maiden over the mile.

He was unraced as a two-year-old and was gelded before making his debut. He showed inexperience on debut when positioned towards the rear for the majority of the race before making some eye-catching headway in the final furlong to run on into fourth place. It took a while for the penny to drop but I was impressed by how he stayed on down the outside and he should come on leaps and bounds for that debut run.

The form of that run could hardly look any better either. Battle Queen who eventually won the race was a previous second to Francophone. At the same time, Redhot Whisper who finished second on the day, has since finished third in a class 2 handicap at Epsom behind Persica and Portsmouth.
