Cheltenham is finished and it was a honking week for me. I had quite a lot of places, but not many winners. It was a tough week and other than some of the short-priced obvious ones, it was very hard to find a winner. Hopefully, you all did better than I did.
It's been a long week, so I'm going to be having a quiet Saturday with just one selection.
Uttoxeter 3:00 – My Silver Lining 6/1 (1pt EW, Bet365/Coral)
On the Saturday after Cheltenham, we have the Midlands Grand National at Uttoxeter and it's normally a very competitive race and this year is still no different.
The horse I like is the progressive My Silver Lining and I thought she would've had a great chance in the Eider Chase if they decided to go for it, but instead, they went to Haydock in a 3m 4f race on bottomless ground which was won by a winning selection, Yeah Man. This horse looks an out-and-out stayer and everytime she has her doubters she just proves them wrong every time. I wasn't keen on her chance in the Classic Chase at Warwick, but she went and proved me wrong, but clearly connections felt she was capable of winning a big off her handicap mark at the time as she went off at 17/2. She showed great grit and determination that day as the ground was soft over 3m 5f and she just kept plugging away at the finish when the Dan Skelton horse was pressing for the win. I didn't think she was stopping at the line, so that is why I thought they were going to go to the Eider Chase, as Emma Lavelle did the same route with Eclair Surf who went to Warwick, won the Classic Chase before heading to Newcastle where he finished 2nd.
This is an unknown territory now she's stepping up to 4m 2f, but she was staying on in second place over 3m 4f at Haydock on heavy ground, and with another furlong, I think she would've got back up to beat the Irish raider. She looks like a proper stamina horse and she's getting in this race towards the bottom of the weights at 10st 9lbs, and given the way she jumps so accurately, I give her a massive chance of winning this.
You want to try and be on the horses towards the bottom of the weights for this race, with only one winner in the last 10 runnings who has been carrying 11st or more and that was back in 2016. 8yo's also have a good record in this race, with five of the last ten winners being of that age.

Santa Anita – Race 6…Abhita 6/1 ***+ Ee if you please but I’d rather put the other half on a combination forecast tbh.

Won a good 67K allowance race then was 0.25 lengths behind a very good horse Ruff Ride in a 67K allowance and hes “franked the form” as they say on next run. Few decent types in here but he’s definitely the value.

Indeed it is red eye . It don’t really mean nothing but he’s obviously worth keeping an eye on . Can’t believe the favs that were coming in at Santa Anita . I was on special club that got done on the line but had perfect in gray that was a good first time out winner ! Will prob lose next time out no doubt just so the bookies can balance the books
That’s the Cheltenham roller coaster over for another year, last 2 days restored my faith in the festival with great competitive races and a few heartwarming stories to boot.

DC is is one for looking at racing trends and I’ve just dug out a few for the Midlands grand national tomorrow so maybe it will help formulate a few ideas for the slog in the bog tomorrow.
Top-three finish in last two completed starts, nine winners in last ten runnings.
Carried no more than 10st 12lb, 9/10.
Officially rated between 136 and 142, 8/10 (both exceptions rated lower)
Ran no more than 12 times over fences, 8/10.
Aged eight or nine, 8/10 (both exceptions aged 11)
My old namesake ELVIS MAIL runs in the 2-25 in a hurdle, a discipline he hasn’t taken part in for a good while.
He is lumbered with 11-13 weight but will stay in the forecast heavy conditions.
Have to have a few bob for old times sake given the price.

Am going to go against the trends slightly as my selection is 10 and have a plunge on YOUNG DEV at 10/1 who was 2nd in this race 2 years ago off 129 and is back for another crack off 122 with jockey taking a further 3lbs off.
He does hit a lot of the trends but the age is the biggest negative however I’m sure Dennis Hogan wouldn’t be sending him over unless he thought it worthwhile.
