The Each Way selection for Day One of the Cheltenham Festival was a decent shout, but eventually bumped into another Joseph O'Brien well-handicapped horse in the JP McManus silks.
Hot Fuss was up with the pace throughout and jumped brilliantly. He turned for home when in contention, but did get headed, but fought back tenaciously but his final jump took him out to the left and the horse continued to hang left which wasn't ideal. Looking back, that didn't matter as he was never going to beat the winner, but he stuck to his task well to ensure we walked away with a small amount of profit from the advised price of 10/1.

Rizzel's tip
I managed to tip up the winner of this race last year with Unexpected Party and he was definitely towards the top of my list for this year's renewal, but I thought the price was a bit skimpy, so I wanted to look elsewhere to see I could find some value. Whilst on the topic of today's favourite, he has clearly been laid out for this race all year. He will be running off a 6lb higher mark than when he won it twelve months ago, but I don't think this race is deep and I could probably count on one hand that I deem as a potential winner, so I can see why he is the price he is, but unless he drifts, it's not for me.
The other horse I fancied quite strongly was the second favourite, My Mate Mozzie. It's unfortunate that he is also towards the top of the market as I thought his chances of winning were there for all to see. He is a course and distance winner and has been targeted for this race. He has been running over hurdles and the flat over the summer and he only made his return to jumps race with a Listed race where he finished second when evidently being undercooked and leaving something to work on for Cheltenham. He will be primed for today's race and it's noticeable that Keith Donoghue has decided to take the ride on this horse when he had a pick of three Gavin Cromwell horses.
It wouldn't be a surprise to see Primoz being well backed in after yesterday's win for the Lucinda Russell stable. This horse was rumoured to be very good before we even saw him over hurdles, he made a nice impression on his hurdling debut but he hasn't quite shown his promise since. He has made a decent transition to fences and has landed a couple of wins, with the recent win at Kelso looking nice on the eye. He has a nice racing weight of 10st 2lbs, but whether he is capable of winning a race like this, I'm not so sure.
After delving into the form of each horse, the one I thought had a decent chance at an each-way price was Jasko Des Dames for Henry De Bromhead and Darragh O'Keefe. I am extremely happy to see that Rachael Blackmore is not on this horse, as I do not rate her in the slightest. Since she has returned from her injury she has looked like a shadow of her former self and Darragh deserves to be the main jockey for HDB. This horse has a fair bit to prove on all known form as his form over fences at the start of the season wasn't too impressive, but the win over Broomfield Bijou looked decent and the win at Wexford over An Peann Dearg looks solid as that horse was ahead of My Mate Mozzie last time out.
This horse is definitely suited to dry ground, which is what he'll get on Wednesday. This horse likes to be up with the pace, so given his prep run for today's race saw him out the back of the telly and not making the running shows that it was for fitness and to ensure his handicap mark didn't take a whacking. This is his handicap debut and it's a race that Henry and Darragh have combined to win before, so at the prices he looked like a solid option.
Selection: Jasko Des Dames 16/1 Each Way (5 places)
