THREE matches in the last 16 of the Scottish Cup take place today and there are three overwhelming favourites.

Celtic host St Johnstone (again), Hearts welcome Ayr United's junior conquerors Auchinleck Talbot and QOS make the long trip to face Aberdeen.

The bookies certainly think these ties are already over with a Celtic, Hearts and Aberdeen treble paying just 7-10. You need to really look hard to find value but there are definitely some bets to be found from these games.

Celtic vs St Johnstone (1.30pm)

Fed up of writing about this game and sick of the sight of Celtic. They've beaten us 2-0 twice in the space of 10 days and with this being at Celtic Park, we can probably expect another comfortable Celtic win. It's a Scottish Cup game though so it could be more open and surely it's a mater of time before Celtic concede a goal, no?

Will be waiting for team new but have three St Johnstone players picked out for bookings (Callaghan, Davidson and Foster).

Hearts v Auchinleck Talbot (3pm)

What a fairytale it has been for Talbot as they have been drawn away to Hearts for the second time in seven years.  Their Scottish Cup dream will end here but the junior side won't care too much as they'll collect a hefty six-figure pay cheque for their troubles.

It's really a case of how many Hearts will win by and whilst I don't expect this to be a hammering I do expect Hearts to win convincingly by a few goals.

Aberdeen vs Queen of the South (3.30pm)

The Dons made a hash of their last round match against Stenny having to settle for a reply having been pegged back at home by the Championship strugglers.

That was an embarrassing result but I don't see that happening again – like the Hearts game it's just a case of how many Aberdeen win by.

They'll need to be on their  guard though as QOS do have Scotland's top marksman in their ranks in Stephen Dobbie. The veteran striker has scored what feels like a million goals this season and countless hat-tricks. He'll be the Doonhamers' main threat.

Aberdeen also have a striker in form in Sam Cosgrove who has 12 goals in his last 10 games – should manage at least three goals between the sides.

Recommended Bets

  • Celtic vs St Johnstone over 2.5 goals
  • Hearts over 2.5 team goals
  • 6-4 double (William Hill) (NAP)
  • Aberdeen and over 2.5 match goals
  • 10-11 (Betbright)

Also having some small stakes on St Johnstone bookings (Murray Davidson, Ross Callaghan and Richie Foster).

Celtic are due to conceded a goal but I don’t see it being today at home with the past 3 visitors registering just 1 shot on target in the last 3 homes.

Celtic, Hearts and Aberdeen to score 3+ is just shy of 11/2

So are we lumping on again, or is it a case of once bitten twice shy? Think I might keep it simple and go for the straight home win treble, just in case there’s a tight game in there somewhere….

A few weeks a go I would have said a high chance – we have gone off the boil though and Celtic have kept 6 clean sheets in a row

It’s a cup game though – 6/4 is big price for a goal
