Safeway Open (starts Thursday, October 4)
The US PGA Tour season gets under way this week with the traditional opening of the Safeway Open at the Silverado Course in California. A par 72 course measuring over 7100 yards.
Only Phil Mickelson from the Ryder Cup tees up today but will have to be in a better frame of mind to figure in the finish this week.
Two players I like this week are Emiliano Grillo and Joaquin Niemann. Grillo, a course winner here in 2015, has the potential to kick on this season and record his second Tour win. Short game needs to improve but driving accuracy is good which is needed this week.
Niemann, the teenager from Chile, has shown a lot of promise and will surely be better this season. First tour win looks not far away and this week could be ideal opportunity.
