After a month's layoff, the DP World Tour is back in action this week with the ISPS Handa Championship at PGM Ishioka Golf Club, Omitama Japan.
The 144 field with the Top 65 including ties making the cut will all be competing for a share of the $2M prize purse with the winner collecting the ISPS Handa Championship title and a winners cheque for $333,400.
This tournament was previously on the Japanese Tour but is now co-sanctioned along with the DP World Tour.
PGM Ishioka Golf Club will be playing 7,039 yards long this week, it’s a par 70 parkland course where going on some research, we should see a birdie fest this week. Greens in Regulation figures will need to be good for the W this weekend in Japan.
The weather is forecast to be nice and warm for the most part with sunny conditions throughout. Breezes will peak at around 15mph.
This event will be screened on Sky Sports Golf & Sky Sports Main event with live coverage starting at 1 am in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Remember to place any pre-tournament bets by 10.30 pm on Wednesday.
Rikuya Hoshino 25/1 EW Unibet 1-6 places
For my first and main selection to win this weekend in Japan Im going to stick with the natives on this one and for that reason Im going to single out Rikuya Hoshino 25/1 EW Unibet 1-6 places. The 26yrs old from Tomobe, Japan could be the one they all have to beat this weekend.
Hoshino simply thrives at this venue where he has finished no worse than second on the last two attempts with one being a W. He has accumulated six wins already on the Japan Golf Tour and finished T6th at the Ras Al Khaimah Classic on the DPWT just a few events back.
With course management all mapped out and conditions to suit you can rely on Rikuya Hoshino to keep the home crowd happy when he wins his maiden DP World Tour title on Sunday morning.
Shugo Imahira 100/1 EW Coral 1-7 places
For my next best selection I’m going to recommend another playing in his homeland this week and has also proved himself on the Japan Golf Tour, Shugo Imahira 100/1 EW Coral 1-7 places.
The 30-year-old homegrown talent from Saitama could surprise the firms this weekend, especially with these generous odds on offer for a player who has made the cut at this venue three times running finishing no worse than 33rd and one being inside the Top 20.
Imahira is s prolific winner over in Japan and has a trophy cabinet full of trophies to prove just that.
He will arrive here feeling he can use all his experience and expertise to get the biggest win of his career yet and I think the firms are taking a chance with 100/1 on the table.
My advice is to take the each-way price safe in the knowledge that a place in the Top 6 will return a tidy profit. It’s about time I delivered another 100/1 + winner so why not this weekend.
Takumi Kanaya 33/1 EW Skybet 1-6 places
For my final outright betting tip to win the ISPS Handa Championship I’m going to point you all in the direction of Takumi Kanaya 33/1 EW Skybet 1-6 places.
This young 24-year-old kid from Hiroshima has a bright future ahead and it could he could get world recognition when he bags the crown of his dreams this weekend.
Already a winner this year on the Asia Tour when scooping International Series Oman, this kid knows what it takes to get a victory.
He has also won on the Japan Tour on three occasions and is rising up the world rankings, currently inside the Top 150 at 142. He finished runner-up at a PGA event in 2021 at the Zozo Championship and 9th in the same year on the DPWT at the Dubai Desert Classic.
He made the cut at Augusta in 2019 finishing in a respectable 58th place at The Masters so it’s clear for all to see this kid can play. It could be all about to change for Takumi Kanaya as he takes centre stage with a life changing victory in his native land.
