The DP World Tour visits South Africa for this weeks Nedbank Golf Challenge at The Gary Player Country Club, Sun City, South Africa.
The much smaller field of 66, with no cut, will all be competing for a share of the $6M prize purse with the winner collecting the Nedbank Golf Challenge Title & a winning cheque for $1M.
Tommy Fleetwood returns to Sun City not only to defend last year’s title but he also won this in 2019 .
With no event in between from 2020 & 2021, Tommy will be seeking the treble this week in Sun City. His winning scorecard from last year read 277, -11.
The Gary Player Country Club will be playing 7,384 yards long this week. It’s a par 72 ,Parkland lay out where Greens in Regulation figures will be crucial.
The weather forecasts hot & sunny conditions throughout with breezes peaking at around 12mph.
This event will be screened on Sky Sports Golf with live coverage starting at 8.30am on Thursday morning.
So let’s crack on with this weeks selections to win the Nedbank Golf Challenge.
Tommy Fleetwood
For my first fancy in Sun City, no point messing around here, it’s Tommy Fleetwood 8/1 EW PaddyPower 1-6 places.
Rock on Tommy is going for the hat-trick this weekend in Sun City & if I’m being honest, it’s probably more likely to happen than not. The 32yrs old Englishman has no less than eight Top 10 finishes at the last dozen attempts.
Runner-up earlier in the year at the RBC Canadian Open was his best effort since winning this event last year & a return to the Gary Player Golf Course could be just what Tommy needs before the year is out.
Greens in Regulation figures will be very important this week where Tommy Fleetwood ranks 4th best on the DP World Tour meanwhile over on the PGA Tour he ranks 5th for SG Total. His Approach Play figures are also up there with the best & when he’s hit with the putter, he’s hot, currently 13th hottest on the PGA Tour.
I can only see Rock on Tommy making it three wins in three this Sunday afternoon in Sun City & even though his price may be a tad shabby with the firms, if indeed he goes win then you know what they say “A wins a win” so 8/1 might not feel that bad after all & neither it should.
Branden Grace
For my next selection it’s Branden Grace 28/1 EW Skybet 1-6 places. Now for obvious reasons I try stay clear of LIV Golfers at any tournament they are still allowed to play outwith the circus & the main reason for that, apart from other things, is that it’s just so difficult to judge current form & performances playing three day pop-up events every now & then.
BUT at the end of the day my job is to pick outright winners at golf tournaments & so for that reason & based on the 35 yrs old natives fine performances in Sun City, the South African is hard to ignore this week in his homeland.
He won this event at the same venue in 2017 & finished 4th here in 2015 & he may have a point to prove to the rest.
I’ve absolutely nothing to go on for Branden Grace since defecting over to the LIV scene but what I do know is that he clearly enjoys this track & has the CV to prove it.
Vincent Norrman
For my final golf betting tip this week I’m going to single out Vincent Norrman 33/1 EW Skybet 1-6 places.
Vincent Norrman done us proud just a couple of months back when winning the Irish Open tipped by The Caddy here on MFT at 45/1.
The 25yrs old Swedish kid has had an amazing year making his breakthrough on both the PGA & DP World Tours. He also scooped the Barbosal Championship just a couple of months back, an event co sanctioned by both tours mentioned above.
He’s very hot with the driver where he ranks 10th on the PGA Tour for Driving Distance but it’s his Going for the Green figures that are sticking out where he ranks 6th in this department. He’s also ranked 7th for Total Eagles & it’s the same number for Par 5 Scoring Average, all these figures will be important this week in Sun City.
Still finding his feet on both Tours makes both those W’s this year even more impressive & Vincent Norrman can turn the double into a treble this coming Sunday afternoon in South Africa.
Most players don’t win that much trophies in their whole career but I did say a long long time ago to keep an eye on Vincent Norrman but you don’t need to do that, I’ll do it for you.
