The DP World Tour season has hardly finished but it’s all about to begin again with a couple of low key affairs this week in Australia & South Africa. I’ll do a full preview for down under I’ll give you my best tips for the Joburg Open.
Before I continue, unfortunately, we couldn’t land the quadruple but the four-timer was ever so close. After picking the outright winners for three weekends running, Sahith Theegala nearly bagged his maiden title but in the end, had to settle for joint runner-up at the RSM Classic.
Our 45/1 EW selection hit the bar yet again but it was still a tidy profit for those who backed him. Seamus Power 25/1 EW also returned a profit for those who follow my tips, finishing T5th. Over in Dubai at the DP World Tour Championship, it was Jon Rahm who won the tournament with the World No 1, Rory McIlroy winning the points race Tommy Fleetwood who I tipped at 16/1 EW finished T5th for yet more Each Way returns. It’s been another fantastic year with 14 outright winners and far too many EWs to mention. As always thank you kindly, everyone, I’m just so happy and glad that lots of you have benefited from my tips and advice. We can still beat last year’s incredible tally which was also 14 but time is quickly running out.
Honestly, I thought it would be impossible to beat last year's total but here we are. We are making this golf tipping business look easy and it's one of the hardest sports to single out a winner so long may it continue. I’ll keep doing my homework and you keep on backing winners, DEAL, and on that note let’s get back to the Australian PGA Championship at Royal Queensland Golf Club, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.
The 156 field with the top 65 including ties making it to the weekend will all be competing for a share of the $2M prize purse with the winner collecting the Australian PGA Championship title and a winner’s cheque for $360,000, that’s Aussie dollars, everyone.
Royal Queensland will be playing 7,162 yards long this week, it’s a par 71 parkland layout where the key to success will involve a hot putter on these slick dance floors while Greens in Regulation figures will need to be high with a very low scorecard needed around Royal Queensland.
Just ask Jediah Morgan who returns to defend the title he won here in 2021. His winning scorecard read 262, -22 .
The weather is forecast to be hot and sunny throughout with breezes expected to peak at around 15mph.
This event will be screened on Sky Sports Golf & Sky Sports Main Event with live coverage starting at 2 am early on Thursday morning.
Min Woo Lee 12/1 EW Betway
For my first and main selection in Brisbane, I’m going to single out Min Woo Lee 12/1 EW Betway. A return home could just be what the talented 24-year-old kid from Perth needs. He won his maiden title in his homeland two years back when scooping the ISPS Handa Vic Open and it could be more of the same for Min Woo Lee this weekend.
The young Aussie hasn’t finished any worse than 12th at his last four attempts and it gets even better as the other three are all Top 10s with two being inside the Top 5.
A very respectable T12th at the star-studded DP World Tour Championship last weekend, T8th at the Nedbank Golf Challenge, 3rd at the Andalucia Masters and finally 3rd again at the Open De Espana.
With two victories already on the DP World Tour, the Vic Open mentioned above with the other being the Scottish Open in 2021, it could be a hat-trick of crowns for Min Woo Lee this weekend as he lets his hotter-than-ever putter do the talking. He ranks 5th on the DPWT for Average Putts per Round and 6th for Driving Distance at 323.07. I say look no further than Min Woo Lee at 12/1 in the Brisbane heat this weekend.
Ryan Fox 14/1 EW Paddy Power
For my next best selection I’m going to point you all on the direction of Ryan Fox 14/1 EW Paddy Power. The 35-year-old from Auckland, New Zealand has already bragged about how good it would be to bear the Aussies on their home turf and he is definitely up for the challenge this weekend in Brisbane. The winner at this year's Ras Al Khaimah Classic and Alfred Dunhill Championship could make this a catch me if you can.
With twelve Top 20 finishes this year including the two victories above, The Fox also has four runners-up finishes, quite incredible, I’ll name them all, 2nd Nedbank Golf Challenge,2nd Irish Open, 2nd Dutch Open and finally 2nd T2nd Soudal Open. On the stats front, three inside the Top 20 on the DP World Tour include 14th Putts per GIR, 10th Driving Distance and 6th Total Stroke Average. I’m counting on Ryan Fox to upset the Aussies in their own backyard with a famous victory in the sunshine this Sunday afternoon.
Rasmus Hojgaard 16/1 EW Betfair
For my next suggestion, I’m going to advise Rasmus Hojgaard 16/1 EW Betfair. The 21-year-old old from Billund in Denmark has had a remarkable career to date and it’s only going to get better for this super kid. With three DP World Tour crown’s already in the bag at such a young age, the sky's the limit for this Great Dane. He won his maiden title by scooping the Mauritius Open in 2019, then the ISPS Handa UK Championship in 2020 and then the Omega European Masters in 2021.
Do you notice a trend, he’s won an event for the past three years in a row and it could be four come Sunday at Royal Queensland. In the last nine tournaments entered, Hojgaard hasn’t finished any worse than 30th, with six of those in the Top 20 and four inside the Top 10 with one being second place at the Open de France. It’s that rich vein of form at just the right time that will see Rasmus Hojgaard crowned as the Australian PGA Champion 2022 to continue the trend down under.
