After a brilliant week for the page last week, where our 28/1 selection of Russell Henley to win the Arnold Palmer Invitational came up trumps, we've picked out three more golf betting tips this weekend for the Players Championship.
It is the biggest PGA Tour event of the season so far with many people in the world of golf considering it the unofficial ‘fifth major'. The challenge of Sawgrass is well-known to all, with the final three holes in particular proving to be one of the hardest stretches of holes in all of golf.
The big news ahead of the tournament is that Tiger Woods won't be participating. The 15-time major champion has ruptured his Achilles and is now a doubt for the remainder of the year.
Despite Woods' absence, all of the highest-ranked players in the world are set to tee it up, including Scottie Scheffler who is seeking a third consecutive win here. Perhaps surprisingly, Scheffler is yet to win a tournament so far this season so although he does come into this as the favourites with all of the best golf betting sites, we aren't overly sure that's fair.
On that note, here are our three Players Championship betting tips.
Players Championship betting tips
Rory McIlroy EW (Ten places) – 10/1
The key to winning TPC Sawgrass revolves a lot around three key areas. Firstly, you have to be strong off the tee more so in terms of distance than accuracy. Secondly, you have to have recent form coming into the event and thirdly, you have to have previous success at the event.
Rory McIlroy ticks all three of these boxes which makes his price of 10/1 look a little on the long side. McCilroy consistently tops the driving distance stats on the PGA Tour and is currently in fifth place for 2025 with an average of more than 320 yards per tee shot.
In terms of recent form, the Northern Irishman already has a win under his belt this season, as he won the Pebble Beach Pro-Am back in February. Twelve of the last 14 winners here have finished inside the top four in a previous event in the three months leading up to the tournament.
Finally, he has a good record at TPC Sawgrass and won the event back in 2019.
Hideki Matsuyama EW (Ten places) – 22/1
The greens around TPC Sawgrass are significantly smaller than the average green on the PGA Tour which leads to players hitting less of them in regulation than usual. A key metric to follow this week will be scrambling, particularly as the forecast for the weekend looks windy, with those most capable of getting up and down for par or better from sticky spots the front runners.
The number one player for scrambling is Hideki Matsuyama who is averaging a par or better 73% of the time when he misses greens in regulation. The former Masters champion has missed GIR 169 times already but has rescued the situation on 124 occasions. That is pretty formidable stuff.
Matsuyama also passes the recent form test. He won the Sentry at the beginning of January and hasn't missed the cut in any of the six tournaments he has played in.
Russell Henley EW (Ten places) – 25/1
He came good for us last week at Bay Hill and we are rolling with Russell Henley again at the Players Championship due to how well he is striking the ball at the moment.
The aforementioned small greens around TPC Sawgrass can be difficult to hit in regulation, hence why scrambling is typically important here, but if you can avoid the need to scramble then even better.
Henley's greens in regulation stats are currently at 72% but perhaps more crucially he is currently the fifth-best player on the PGA Tour for par 3 scoring. We are going to hear a lot about the par-3 17th hole over the next couple of days as it is one of the most challenging holes in golf.
Being able to navigate that well over four rounds could go a long way to deciding the winner and Henley has the tools to play it consistently well.
What's more, Henley now has four top-ten finishes in his six PGA Tour appearances in 2025. In other words, he is red hot.
