Although golf's four major tournaments have now been and gone, this week represents another opportunity for several of the game's elite to pick up a prestigious title.
Olympics golf has only been on the agenda at the Olympics since 2016 and the fact it's only played every four years makes the Gold Medal a prize well worth chasing.
This year's event will follow a similar format to the majority of PGA Tour events in that it will be played over four days from Thursday – Sunday and the winner will be whoever shoots the lowest score over 72 holes.
The only difference is that there will be no cut line after 36 holes meaning that all 60 players who tee it up on Thursday will play the final rounds on Saturday and Sunday.
The tournament is set to be held at Le Golf National, a part-72 course 40km away from Paris. It was only built in 1990 and its most prestigious event to date was the Ryder Cup in 2018. The course also plays host to the Open de France each year on the DP World Tour.
Ahead of the players teeing off on Thursday morning, here is our run-through of Olympics golf betting tips.
Olympics golf betting tips
Looking at how players have fared at the Open de France over the years, the two most important metrics to study are greens in regulation and scrambling. This is somewhat contradictory in that you shouldn't be scrambling too much if you are hitting greens in regulation but the players who do well on these stats usually succeed at Le Golf National.
Nine of the last eleven winners of the Open de France have ranked inside the top three for greens in regulation percentage, so look to players who have been giving themselves the best looks at the putting surface from their tee shots.
Scrambling isn't as important but there is still enough evidence to suggest making pars from around the green will be vital. Guido Migliozzi was the top scrambler in the field when he won in 2022 while from 2015-2019 each winner ranked inside the top ten on the metric.
Scottie Scheffler E/W (Eight places) – 16/5
Scottie Scheffler is having an incredible season on the PGA Tour and has six wins to his name since March. Scheffler has played so well this season that some people feel that he has ‘failed' in only winning one major – the Masters in April.
There is a sense that when you are having a season as rare and as good as this one, failing to win a gold medal at the Olympics would be a huge opportunity missed by the world number one.
His game is well set up for Le Golf National, too. He tops the charts on the PGA Tour for greens in regulation while he is ranked sixth for scrambling. Other key approach metrics that Scheffler excels in are strokes gained on approach shots (1st on the PGA Tour) and birdie or better percentage from the fairway (1st on the PGA Tour).
Tommy Fleetwood E/W (Eight places) – 14/1
Tommy Fleetwood may still be waiting for his first win on the PGA Tour but he is a multiple winner on the DP World Tour, including a victory at the Open de France 2017 which will fill him with huge confidence coming into this weekend.
When you look at his stats, it's easy to see why Fleetwood is a previous winner on this golf course. This season, he inside the top ten for driving accuracy which will give him plenty of great looks to attack the greens. Additionally, he is ranked sixth for scrambling – a metric we know is important here.
Fleetwood comes into the tournament on the back of a solid season but also fresh from huge disappointment at the Open Championship where he missed the cut. That could be all the motivation he needs to put things right in France.
Hideki Matsuyama E/W (Eight places) – 25/1
Hideki Matsuyama has one of the best short games on the PGA Tour which should stand him in good stead this week as he seeks to add to Japan's already impressive medal haul.
Matsuyama ranks 5th for scrambling on the PGA Tour this season but two of the four players above him aren't competing this week which puts him right amongst the very elite on this metric.
He also has a knack of doing well at the game's biggest events. He is a Masters champion and finished 6th at the US Open and Players Championship this season.
