Eight months ago Aberdeen travelled to deepest darkest Ayshire for a Scottish Cup tie against sixth tier Darvel. A shock 1-0 defeat was sandwiched in between two heavy defeats in Edinburgh which ultimately cost Jim Goodwin his job.
Since then Barry Robson has turned things around but tonight he faces a similarly tricky cup match, away to Stirling Albion – one of the form teams in Scotland.
Albion gained promotion to League One with a brilliant end to the season which they’ve carried in to this one, a run which has seen them beaten just twice in 26 matches. The first of those defeats was in their final match of the season when their race had been run, the second in midweek when Darren Young opted to rest several first-teamers in a 3-0 loss to East Kilbride.
An eye-catching 4-0 win at St Johnstone for Young’s men in the group stages of this competition is all the warning Robson needs that this won’t be a walk in the park.
The Binos are 11/2 to pull off the win but with two full divisions separating the sides you’d want bigger than that to get involved.
They should make things tough for the Dons but the Premiership side’s quality should prevail. It could be a tight one so the 13/5 on Aberdeen winning with there being Under 2.5 goals appeals. Alternatively you can have the Dons to win and Under 3.5 goals at 6/5.
The Friday night match in the Premiership is at the City Ground where Nottingham Forest welcome Sheffield United.
Most pundits think it’ll be a long season for the Blades and they’re second favourites to go down.
Both sides started with opening day defeats but Forest will be feeling more positive about their performance at the Emirates than United will about their 1-0 defeat at home to Crystal Palace.
Forest’s home form was good enough to keep them up last season and they should get their first three points on the board tonight at 10/11.

Horse Racing Tips
Thursday was a frustrating day with a dead-heat winner combined with a rule 4, but Rizzel is back with two more selections for Friday which are running at Cork and Newbury.

I am definitely not an expert in Saudi Arabian football but with all the big signings I am taking a close look at things and Happy to take this on as my first bet and definitely a bit of value
Al-hilal Vs Al-feiha sat 7pm KO
Neymar is arguably the biggest signing to make the move and cannot believe the odds of 4/5 for him to score on debut Infront of home supporters
Not a fan of goalscorer bets at what I would consider relatively low odds for this market but this still can’t be ignored
Especially as bet 365 are 4/11 and anyone else offering this market is 1/2

Al-Khaleej Saihat v Al Ahli Jeddah – 7.00pm (Saudi Professional League)
Al-Ahli have recently been on a £123 million spending spree and purchased a lot of top-flight players. Their current squad includes: Riyad Mahrez, Roger Ibanez, Roberto Firmino, Allan Saint-Maximin, Franck Kessie and Edouard Mendy.
They are playing against Al Khaleej, who sit towards the bottom of the league and spent just £2 million on players. Al Khaleej’s squad consists of mainly domestic Saudi players.
As you would expect, Al Ahli are priced as 1.50 favourites to win (and the price is starting to slide). The only potential issue is Roberto Firmino may be out of tonight’s game due to a hamstring issue. Even without Robbie, there should still be enough class for Al Ahli to win this one.
Al Ahli Jeddah to win: 1.50, or for better value Al Ahli Jeddah to win + over 1.5 goals: 1.80 (Bet365) ✅
Also, Al Ahli Jeddah -1.0 asian at 1.80 worth looking at (Al Ahli win by 2+ goals = you win, Al Ahli wins by 1 goal = stake refund) ✅
Match ended 3:1 to Al Ahli without Robbie Firmino even playing, which shows what a strong team Al Ahli have. I expect bookies to get wise to these saudi teams, but there could still be value – especially if you lock in early prices 👍
Nice one mate.
Yeah can’t see it being very long before the bookies start shortening these odds massively. Even goalscorers will end up being way too short I imagine.
Nice pick Chris…
