Racing tips: Miaharris can build on a very promising debut

Walking away with no profit on Thursday is frustrating. We should be walking away with no loss either, but there was a 20p rule 4 on Mighty Ulysses who was dead-heated for the win, so that means the returns were butchered. 

Thornbrook was pathetic in Ireland and Chinese Knot couldn't get going in time, with one of the bigger outsiders winning the opener at Windsor. I don't think the track helped Chinese Knot as the winner got the first run on the field and that made it much easier.

Newbury 3:45 – Miaharris 11/4 (1pt Bet365/WilliamHill)

This race in recent years has been won by one of the lesser respected horses in the lineup so even though I don't particularly fancy any at bigger odds, they still have to be respected due to history repeating itself in this race.

I liked the debut of Miaharris from the Owen Burrows stable. Owen is a proper trainer and now Shadwell has stepped back with their investment it has allowed Owen to take horses from other owners and O S Harris is a serious operation, better known for their horses in the jumps world, but this lad looks a lovely investment for them and the manner in which he won on debut looked to me like this horse is a potentially 100+ rated horse for the future.

I could be talking nonsense as he has only run once, but sometimes you've got to go with what the visual test tells you and the way in which he powered clear of that field on debut was impressive, and there's only more to come from him. Oisin Murphy is a very positive booking and Owen Burrows isn't one for wasting his ammunition, so if he thinks this horse is ready for a Class 1 race, then I firmly believe this is the right step. I don't think it's a fantastic race, but you've got some strong form lines from Juniper Berries and the Karl Burke duo, but the fact that Danny Tudhope isn't on the Clipper horse suggests that won't be winning and Clifford Lee's mount struggled to win at 1/7F last time against an average bunch.

Cork 5:52 – Shamida 7/2 (1pt)

Paddy Twomey has won the last two renewals of this race so his sole runner in the lineup has to be respected. However, I think she has a lot to improve on to win this and before Paddy's recent success this has been a race that Dermot Weld and Aga Khan have done well in.

Shamida looks like a typical Dermot Weld improver, getting better with age. She looks like a really strong stayer, so the drop back to 12f doesn't look ideal, but the ground will hopefully be soft come the time of racing and that will make it more of a stamina test. The form of her maiden win has turned into a very good maiden with many winners coming behind her, and then Shamida went on to win a Group 3 at Leopardstown, beating Library who was a fair way behind, although didn't get the run of the race.

I feel like there's plenty more to come with this filly and she is great value against the Ballydoyle pair who sandwich Shamida in the market.
