Football Bet of the Day

After returning to winning ways at York on Tuesday night, Thursday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me delve into the Conference League, and I’ve highlighted a goals-based selection in one of the fixtures.

⚽️ NK Celje vs FC Lugano

🇪🇺 Conference League

⏰ Thursday 6 March, 20:00

Reigning Slovenian champions Celje welcome Swiss side Lugano to the Stadion Z'dezele on Thursday night in the first leg of their Conference League last-16 tie in a fixture that appeals to me for goals.

Ex-Liverpool winger Albert Riera has seen his side score 53 goals across their opening 20 league and European fixtures in front of their supporters this season, with 17 (32%) of them coming across their five Conference League encounters.

The Grofje have found the back of the net in each of their opening eight European contests on home soil, notching on multiple occasions in six (75%) of them – including in all five (100%) in the Conference League – and will look to continue their impressive goal-scoring record at home against a Lugano defence that has kept just three clean sheets across their 18 league and European fixtures away from home.

Mattia Croci-Torti’s visitors have scored 22 goals across their 12 European fixtures this campaign, with seven (32%) of them coming on their travels.

The Bianconeri have made the net bulge in all 12 (100%) of their contests in Europe this season – notching on multiple occasions in seven (58%) of them – and will look to find the target once again against a Celje defence that has recorded a solitary shutout in the Conference League this term, shipping 2+ goals in six of their last eight.

Bet of the Day

Celje’s opening 20 league and European fixtures in front of their supporters this season have averaged a whopping 4.10 goals per game, with Over 2.5 Goals paying out in 16 (80%) of them – including 5/5 (100%) in the Conference League.

Those five home contests in the Conference League for the reigning Slovenian champions have averaged an eye-watering 5.20 goals per game, with those matches finishing 2-2, 3-2, 3-3, 5-1 and 4-1.

Lugano’s opening 12 European fixtures this season have averaged an eye-catching 3.75 goals per game – with Over 2.5 Goals banking in nine (75%) of them – and I’m happy to have a play on another high-scoring encounter in Slovenia on Thursday night.

  • Over 2.5 Goals
  • Pays 17/20 (Bet365)
