Saturday’s Football Bet of the Day see’s me focus on England and in particular two sides at the top end of their respective leagues. I’m predictinh both sides to secure all three points on home turf.
Rotherham vs Bolton Wanderers
🏴 League 1
⏰ Saturday 1st January, 15:00
Rotherham will look to return to the top of the League 1 table as they host away day strugglers Bolton at the New York Stadium. Rotherham slipped down to 2nd following Sunderland’s 5-0 win on Thursday, whilst Bolton are in 16th, just six points above the relegation zone.
Rotherham saw their 16 match unbeaten run in League 1 come to an end last time out, as they were defeated 1-0 away to Accrington Stanley. Paul Warne’s side had won 11 of those 16 fixtures, including five of their last six, prior to that defeat in Lancashire on Boxing Day. In recent month’s, Accrington have been particularly strong at home, winning six of their last seven at the New York Stadium, scoring 23 goals. Only Sunderland (47) have scored more goals in League 1 than Rotherham (43), with The Millers also possessing the league’s best defence, conceding on just 16 occasions.
Bolton have not played in League 1 since a 1-0 defeat away to Accrington on the 11th of December. Ian Evatt’s side don’t come into this in great form, winning just two of their last 11 in the league, losing seven. Bolton have been particularly poor on their travels in recent months, losing each of their last six, without scoring a single goal. The Trotters have lost all six games away to sides in the top 10, conceding eight times, failing to score in all six of them as well.
Chesterfield vs Kings Lynn Town
🏴 National League
⏰ Saturday 1st January, 15:00
Chesterfield will look to extend their lead at the top of the table as they play host to a struggling Kings Lynn side at the Technique Stadium. The hosts are currently above Halifax on goal difference, despite playing a game less, whilst Kings Lynn are 22nd, five points from safety.
Chesterfield scored a late equaliser to draw 1-1 with Halifax last time, maintaining their position at the top of the league. James Rowe’s side are unbeaten in their last 10 in the league, winning six of them. The Spireites are one of only two sides who are still unbeaten at home, taking 19 points from their opening nine matches. Chesterfield have won six of their seven matches against the bottom eight sides in league, scoring 18 goals and keeping six clean sheets.
After winning their first match in the league since the beginning of October against the only side below them in the table, Kings Lynn got back to losing ways last time out, as they lost 2-0 away to Halifax. Tommy Widdington’s side have actually lost nine of their last 10 in the league, including each of their last five away from home. Only bottom side Dover (48) have conceded more goals in the league than Kings Lynn (40), with 23 of those goals coming in their nine away games.
Bet of the Day
Rotherham know if they collect all three points at home to Bolton, they’ll leapfrog Sunderland back to the top of the league 1 table. Paul Warne’s side have a strong home record, winning six of their last seven and I’m expecting them to collect another three points at home to away day strugglers Bolton. The Trotters have lost their last six away from home in League 1 without even scoring, and I’m predicting them to lose once more here. Chesterfield can open up a three point gap at the top of the National League should they collect all three points at home to a struggling Kings Lynn side. The Spireites are unbeaten in their last 10 in the league and have a strong record against sides at the bottom end of the table. Kings Lynn have lost nine of their last 10 in the National League and have the league’s second worst defence and I’m expecting them to struggle here. Chesterfield won the reverse fixture 0-2 and I’m once again expecting a routine victory for the promotion chasers.
