Sunday’s Football Bet of the Day see’s me focus on the top flights in both Italy and Portugal. I’ve picked a selection from each to give us a nicely priced double.
Atalanta vs Inter
🇮🇹 Serie A
⏰ Sunday 16th January, 19:45
Two of the top four go head to head at the Gewiss Stadium, as Atalanta host champions Inter. The hosts come into this in 4th, eight points behind their opponents who top the Serie A table.
Prior to booking their place in the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia midweek following a 2-0 win over Venezia, Atalanta thumped Udinese 2-6 last Sunday, in their first fixture in 2022. Gian Piero Gasperini’s side have only failed to score twice all season, scoring in 17 of their last 18 league matches. Only the two Milan clubs have outscored Atalanta this season, with La Dea scoring on 44 occasions. Atalanta have kept just five clean sheets this season, conceding 26 goals.
Simone Inzaghi claimed his first price of silverware as Inter boss, defeating Juventus 2-1 to lift the Supercoppa in dramatic fashion. In the league, Inter are in fantastic form, with their 2-1 victory over Lazio last Sunday making it eight straight wins in Serie A. Inter are yet to fail to score in Serie A and are the league’s highest scorers, finding the back of the on 51 occasions. All bar one of the Nerrazzuri’s 20 games in Serie A have seen at least two goals, with 13 of them seeing at least three.
Belenenses vs Porto
🇵🇹 Primeira Liga
⏰ Sunday 16th January, 20:30
Two sides at opposite end of the Primeira League table go head to head at the Estádio Nacional, as Belenenses host Porto. The hosts come into this bottom, four points from automatic safety, whilst the visitors are top, three points clear of current champions Sporting CP.
Belenenses failed to build on their 2-1 win at home to Arouca, as they lost 1-0 away to fellow relegation rivals Famalicão last time out in an ill tempered game. That win over Arouca is Belenenses’s only win in their last seven, with them losing the other six. Filipe Cândido’s side have collected just 11 points all season, with only two of them coming against sides currently positioned in the top half.
Following Sporting’s shock defeat away to Santa Clara, Porto extended their lead at the top to three points, following their dramatic comeback win away to Estoril. The Dragons have dropped just four points all season and come into this winning each of their last 12. Only Benfica have scored more than Sergio Conceição’s side in the Primeira Liga’s this season, with the Dragons finding the back of the net 44 times in their opening 7 matches.
Bet of the Day
Atalanta go toe to toe with champions Inter in the late kick off on Sunday evening, in what should be an absolute classic. Both of these sides are two of the highest scorer’s in Serie A so far this season, scoring 95 goals in the pair’s 40 combined matches. The reverse fixture finished 2-2 and I’d be surprised if we didn’t see goals here and with it being likely both sides will score, that should lead to over 2.5 goals. Porto have been in superb form this season and will look to make it 13 wins on the bounce away to bottom side Belenenses. The bottom side have collected just 11 points all season and should be no match for Sergio Conceição’s side. Porto have bagged 44 goals from their opening 17 matches in the Primeira Liga and given the Dragons have scored at least twice in 14 of their 15 victories, I’m happy to back them to score at least twice in what should be a comfortable victory against a poor Belenenses side.
