After falling a goal short in South Korea on Wednesday, Friday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me head to the Irish top flight, and I’ve highlighted one fixture in particular that I expect to be a low-scorer.

Two clubs at opposite ends of the Irish Premier Division meet at Oriel Park tomorrow evening, as second-from-bottom Dundalk, play host to 4th-placed Waterford in a fixture that I’m keen to oppose goals in.
Ex-Rangers Striker Jon Daly has seen his side score the fewest goals in the Irish Premier Division, scoring just 13 goals across their opening 21 matches, with only four (31%) of them coming on home soil.
The Railwaymen have failed to score in 11/21 (52%) of their league outings – including in 7/10 (70%) of them in front of their supporters – and may find it difficult to breach a Waterford defence that’s conceded just 12 goals across their opening 10 road trips, with eight (67%) of them coming against the three sides above them in the table.
Keith Long’s visitors are the joint second-highest scorers in the Irish top flight, slamming in 30 goals across their opening 21 matches, with just 11 (37%) of them coming on their travels.
The Blues have failed to score in 8/21 (38%) of their league outings – including in four of their previous eight away from home – and may find it difficult to breach a Dundalk defence that has recorded eight successive clean sheets in front of their supporters.

Dundalk’s opening 10 Irish Premier Division fixtures in front of their supporters this term have averaged just 1.10 goals per game, with Both Teams to Score failing to land in all 10 (100%) of them – and given both have failed to oblige in six of Waterford’s previous eight league outings on their travels – I’m hoping we see a similar scoreline to the goalless draw between these two sides the last time they faced off at this venue in the middle of March.
