PAUL INCE makes his return to football tonight and although I don't like backing against sides with new bosses he faces a tough test at Leeds.

Former MK Dons gaffer Ince takes charge of a Blackpool side with just two wins in 10 and struggling since Michael Appleton's shock move to Blackburn.

Ince has been charged with improving fortunes and he knows the side well having watched son Tom often enough.

However, a trip to Elland Road isn't for the fainthearted these days with Leeds having won six out of seven at home. But Ince will take heart from the fact they've lost their last four but only a 1-0 defeat to Cardiff was on their own turf.

Neil Warnock's men were booed by fans after their 4-0 FA Cup exit to Man City at the weekend but that was no disgrace and he'll be looking for three points to boost their hopes of making the play-offs.

Leeds are a biggest 8-5 at BetVictor with Blackpool 11-5 with Ladbrokes and the draw 12-5 at BetVictor. And with Ince in place I reckon he'll steer his men to a point.

Since Luciano Becchio left for Norwich, Leeds' main man has been Scotland striker Ross McCormack who is 6-1 with BetVictor and Coral to score first.

The spotlight will of course be on 17-goal Ince who is 13-2 at Coral and BetVictor to keep his old man happy with the opener and 21-10 at BetVictor to net at any time.

Both teams should score in what could be an exciting Championship encounter. That pays 8-11 at Stan James and Coral.

There are two games in the Johnstone Paint Trophy, a Northern semi-final second leg between Crewe and Coventry and a Southern semi featuring Southend and Orient.

With Crewe 3-0 up that one's over so let's look at the Southend clash with the home men leading
1-0 from the first meeting at Brisbane Road.

Paul Sturrock's side are in the middle of an injury crisis with seven out and other struggling. He'll be forced to field a makeshift line-up and that could play into the hands of League One Orient who are 17-10 at bet365 and William Hill to win on the night and at least force penalties.

Recommendations

Leeds v Blackpool draw
(12-5, BetVictor)

Ince to score
(21-10, BetVictor)

Orient
(17-10, bet365, William Hill)

Danny, came back from walk hoping to see 4m and it’s actually 4,000,811. At this rate 5m won’t be too far away and maybe we’ll give away a nice prize to mark the milestone. I was thinking two season tickets to see the Bankies.

I don’t even know if you could give away 2 season tickets for the Bankies Mr F!!! As Danny says I used to go and watch them but only if Rangers were playing away. I was going to watch Yoker now and again a few years back but that’s only cause a few of my mates were playing for them at the time… Holm Park was a dive although I hear its a bit better these days. Is that where the Bankies are still playing their home games?

    • Avatar of Mr Fixit
      Mr Fixit 12 years ago

Bingo, Bankies share Holm Park with Yoker now. It’s not palacious but much better than it used to be. Terracing much better now, social club’s pretty decent and pitch is one of the best in the juniors. Bankies v Auchinleck Talbot on Saturday so Holm Park should be rocking.

I had a nice quad come up last night from Bayern, Porto, Hull & Stirling Albion at 26/1. (Only a fiver on mind you) so I’ll just be dipping £20 from that for a Galatasaray/Orient double tonight.

Tempted by adding Leeds but I have an uneasy feeling about it, anything could happen

    • Avatar of Mr Fixit

David, I had three of those (not Hull) last night. I’d be on Leeds if it wasn’t for the Ince factor. Teams often raise their game for the new boss and Blackpool have got some decent players.

Craig, just in the office and been sent this by Coral. I wish him luck but really want Galatasaray to win.

Coral’s Nicoal McGeady said: “From over 72,000 entrants one lucky punter is on the verge of scooping a whopping £1,000,000 in Coral’s Win A Million competition. To win the million pounds, the savvy punter, hailing from Wiltshire, must predict the correct scores of tonight’s two Champions League fixtures.

“The Coral punter has already managed to predict the correct score of six Champions League clashes and if his selections for tonight prove correct he will hit the jackpot. In order for him to defy the odds, Barcelona must beat AC Milan 2-0 and Galatasaray must draw 1-1 with Schalke.

“In a few hours’ time, one man’s life could change forever as he is on the verge of becoming a millionaire. Everybody on the Coral trading floor is literally sitting on the edge of their seats in anticipation of tonight’s clashes and if the punter’s predictions click, we will be facing one of our biggest ever pay-outs!”

Guido,, most firms have a max payout but I’ve seen cases when they settle at actual odds because it’s good publicity. But remember this is a free bet the guy placed on a promo so a bit different. I can’t see how he could cover the two correct scores but might be able to do something late on if one game is going his way and he needs just a goal in the other. Maybe if Barca are 2-0 up and Gala are leading 1-0 Coral will offer him £100k to call it quits. That way he’d win and so would we who backed the Turks.

Lazio vs Borussia Monchengladbach, Thu 18:00 BST

Match Odds: Lazio 2.1, Gladbach 4.0, the draw 3.55

The 3-3 draw these teams played out in the first leg was remarkable for several reasons. First was the topsy-turvy nature of the clash – Gladbach led 1-0, Lazio went 2-1 up, Gladbach dragged themselves back in front at 3-2, only for Lazio’s Libor Kozak to grab an equaliser in the fourth minute of stoppage time. The second extraordinary thing about the match was that Gladbach were awarded three penalties, two of which they converted. The third point to note is that Lazio managed to snatch a draw despite playing the last 21 minutes with ten men, after Andre Dias had been sent off.

All of that excitement leaves Borussia Monchengladbach needing a win at the Stadio Olimpico to knock Lazio out, and I can’t see that happening. Lucien Favre’s side are strong at home, but they struggle on their travels. The Foals have won just two of their 12 away games in the Bundesliga, and although they are unbeaten away from home in the Europa League, this is by far their toughest test.

Lazio are in poor form, having not won in five matches, but they have one of the best home records in Italy. In Serie A Vladimir Petkovic’s men have won nine out of 13 home games, and in their last two games at the Olimpico they beat Juventus in the Coppa Italia and drew 1-1 with high-flying Napoli. In the Europa League Lazio have won three out of four home games, keeping clean sheets in all three group matches. Petkovic picked a strong team in the first leg, and is expected to do so again.

Given Lazio’s superb home record and Borussia’s inconsistency on the road, I’m very surprised to see the Lazio win priced so generously, especially as Gladbach will have to chase the game at some stage. Backing Lazio at 2.1 is great value.

Hannover vs Anzhi Makhachkala, Thu 20:05 BST

Match Odds: Hannover 2.44, Anzhi 3.05, the draw 3.65

Hannover are staring down the barrel after a 3-1 reverse in Russia, but their excellent home form should give them cause to believe they can turn the tie around. In the Bundesliga Mirko Slomka’s entertainers have won seven out of 11 home games, while in the Europa League they have won four out of five and are unbeaten.

Anzhi have been a mixed bag on the road, winning 5-0 at AZ Alkmaar in the qualifiers but losing at Liverpool and Young Boys in the group stage. With strikers like Samuel Eto’o and Lacina Traore at their disposal, Anzhi rarely fail to score. Indeed, Guus Hiddink’s men have drawn a blank just four times in 32 games this season.

With Anzhi likely to score against a suspect Hannover defence weakened by injuries, backing Over 2.5 Goals at 1.85 seems prudent, especially as that bet has paid out in 27 of Hannover’s 36 matches this term.

Rubin Kazan vs Atletico Madrid, Thu 17:00 BST

Match Odds: Rubin 2.76, Atletico 2.84, the draw 3.4

Europa League holders Atletico Madrid are in serious danger of tumbling out after last week’s shock 2-0 home defeat. Rubin scored after just six minutes, and despite having Roman Sharonov sent off on the stroke of half-time, the Russians added a second deep into stoppage-time as Atleti keeper Sergio Asenjo was punished for inexplicably going into the Rubin box for a late corner.

That comedy goal has made Atletico’s job extremely difficult. Rubin won all three of their home games in the group stage without conceding a goal, including a 3-0 thrashing of Inter Milan. Atletico’s away form in the competition has hardly been stellar – they were beaten at both Academica and Viktoria Plzen, failing to score in both games.

A strong Atletico side (including Radamel Falcao) couldn’t break Rubin down in the first leg, even with a man advantage, and I think they’ll encounter similar resistance in Russia. You can back Rubin Draw No Bet at 1.95, and Under 2.5 Goals also looks attractive at 1.82.

Chris, Lampard wants to score every week anyway. I don’t think this changes anything.
