We are now in March and that means the run-in has officially begun across England's top four divisions. As a result, every match now has something extra on it with titles to be won and relegation to be avoided across the board.
Extra pressure often results in tenser matches with plenty of teams now more concerned about not losing as opposed to winning. While that can make matches become a little stale at this time of year, it does make for chances on the football pools.
Below, check out our five expert football pools for the weekend, all of which are targeted at collecting maximum points from the standard pools scoring system as detailed below –
- Score draw: 3 points
- No-score draw (0-0): 2 points
- Home or away win: 1 point
Our expert football pools betting tips
Brighton vs Fulham (Premier League)
On Saturday afternoon, it's Brighton vs Fulham in the Premier League in a match between two sides that are separated by just one point and one place in the league table. After 27 matches, it's fair to conclude from that statistic that these are two very similar teams operating at an almost identical level.
Both sides are also among the teams who have drawn the most matches in the division this season with only Everton drawing more matches than Brighton (ten draws). Meanwhile, Fulham are only one draw behind on nine for the season.
Wolves vs Everton (Premier League)
On Saturday night, it's Wolves vs Everton at Molineux in a match that could turn out to be a significant one in the battle to avoid relegation to the Championship. As mentioned above, Everton are the king of draws in the Premier League with 11 to their name this season and three of those have come in their last four matches.
Their opponents, Wolves, aren't nearly as proficient when it comes to draws but did record a 1-1 draw with the Toffees the last time they played them at the business end of the season at Molineux (May 2023).
Watford vs Millwall (Championship)
Watford will welcome Millwall to Vicarage Road on Saturday in a match between two clubs currently stuck in the middle of the Championship table. While Watford will still believe they can finish inside the top six, they will have to overcome a stubborn Millwall side this weekend which won't be easy.
The Lions have drawn 12 of their 35 Championship matches so far this season at an average of more than one draw every three matches and three of those have come in their last five matches. Watford are also frequent drawers in recent times with two of their last five matches finishing all square.
West Brom vs QPR (Championship)
It's difficult to go into any game week predicting anything other than a draw for West Brom and that is the case again this weekend against QPR. The Baggies are the side with the most draws across England's top four divisions, with 16, and they have been at it again recently with two draws from their last three matches.
QPR aren't exactly strangers to drawing matches, either, with the R's recording 11 draws so far this season. Six of those have come on the road, and another could quite easily be on the cards this weekend.
Peterborough vs Wycombe (League One)
Our final pools betting tip of the week comes from League One where Peterborough take on Wycombe. The visitors are currently on track for promotion to the Championship but draws have been getting in their way somewhat. They have drawn ten matches this season and two of those have come in their last five matches.
Peterborough have also been trending in draws recently and played out a dull 0-0 draw with Blackpool in the week.
