Tottenham have only won two of their last nine Champions League games (W2 D2 L5) and their European record at Wembley reads W1 L2
One of the most controversial aspects of Tottenham’s move to Wembley for this season was that they endured a disastrous Champions League group stage at the Home of Football last term. Spurs were dumped out of the Champions League after picking up just seven group stage points — only three of which came at home. This season, their two home league games at Wembley have produced one point, after a defeat to Chelsea and draw with Burnley. Playing Dortmund will be a massive acid test for Mauricio Pochettino to gauge how his team are coping with Wembley. Spurs cannot rely on their away form (two wins from two) if they are to achieve success this season.

Dortmund drew 0-0 with Freiburg at the weekend, only the second time in 24 games they have failed to score
Borussia Dortmund lost Ousmane Dembele this summer when he was sold to Barcelona after a protracted transfer saga. But they haven’t been short on goals this season. They’d scored 11 times in four games heading into Saturday’s trip to Freiburg but were frustrated against the hosts, who went down to 10 men after half an hour, and had to settle for a 0-0 draw. This shouldn’t be too much of a concern for manager Peter Bosz, who has Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang firing at the start of this campaign. Spurs have exposed their defensive weaknesses at Wembley already this season and Dortmund will expect to score in this group stage opener.

Harry Kane scored his 100th and 101st goals for Tottenham in the 3-0 win over Everton on Saturday, which were his first club goals of the season
As soon as August ended Harry Kane started scoring again. He’s now gone three successive Augusts without scoring a goal but Kane bagged a double for England in Malta on 1st September and then got another two at Goodison Park on Saturday. It’s been a whirlwind three seasons for the 24-year-old, who started the 2013/14 campaign as a bit-part Europa League player. He’s progressed exceptionally since then to become one of the Premier League’s deadliest finishers. Kane’s job on Wednesday has been eased by the news Dortmund defenders Marcel Schmelzer and Marc Bartra are both set to miss the match through injury.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang boasts 11 goals in his last nine Dortmund games
Dortmund sold Ousmane Dembele to Barcelona this summer but crucially held on to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The Gabon striker has been one of the Bundesliga’s leading goalscorers for three seasons now. He was linked with moves away from Germany but Dortmund held firm. And it’s not hard to see why. Aubameyang’s speed stretches play and gives Dortmund a threat even when they’re under pressure themselves. He is a poacher in the box as much as he’s a runner with the ball. Forty goals for Dortmund in a season where he also played in the Africa Cup of Nations last term is staggering. Aubameyang has only failed to score in three Dortmund game since mid-April and should be backed to find the net at Wembley.

Only three of Dortmund’s last 32 Champions League games have ended in a draw (W17 D3 L12)
Dortmund have been one of the most successful Champions League teams in recent seasons. They have qualified for the knockout stages in their last four campaigns and reached the final in 2013 only to lose to Bayern Munich. Last season they topped Group F, finishing two points above eventual tournament winners Real Madrid, having scored 21 goals in six games. Dortmund sit top of the Bundesliga this term with seven points from three outings. Before Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Freiburg they were on a six-game streak of scoring two goals or more in a game. Defeating Dortmund is tough but a draw at Wembley could suit both camps.
