The first tennis major of the year will begin on Sunday, 18 January as the best men's and women's tennis players in the world descend on Melbourne for the Australian Open.
Over the years, this has been a major that has thrown up its fair share of classics to kick off the new tennis season, and this year should be no different across both the men's and women's singles competitions.
Looking to defend their titles this year are Jannik Sinner and Madison Keys. Sinner, a two-time winner here, will go as the favourite to win the title again this year, while Keys, who won here first-ever grand slam here last year, is just the ninth seed.
Ahead of play getting underway on Sunday, here are our outright Australian Open betting tips.
Australian Open 2025 outright betting tips
Carlos Alcaraz to win the men's singles – 7/4
Carlos Alcaraz is a six-time Grand Slam champion, but for whatever reason, he has struggled at the Australian Open so far in his career. While he has won each of the other three slams twice, the furthest he has ever gone in Melbourne is the quarter-finals.
So, why are we backing him? Well, the character of Alcaraz is that of an athlete who needs extra motivation to reach his peak. See the US Open final at the end of last year – after being obliterated by Jannik Sinner in the Wimbledon final, Alcaraz found a whole new gear and dismantled the Italian in fours sets in the New York final.
The extra motivation of having to come out and complete the career slam is something that is only going to make Alcaraz better, and that's a dangerous prospect for everyone else in the draw.
Amanda Anisimova to win the women's singles – 8/1
Aryna Sabalenka is the odds-on favourite to win the Women's singles title in Australia, but women's tennis in recent years has rarely followed the script. Last year, Sabalenka reached the final but was ousted by Madison Keys, and a similar outcome is on the cards here.
Amanda Anisimova is someone who is getting closer and closer to becoming a Grand Slam champion. The American has reached the final of the last two Grand Slams and her performance at the US Open final was significantly better than her performance at Wimbledon.
If she continues on that line of improvement, then she could be in for a very special two weeks in Australia, and at 8/1, she's phenomenal value.
Novak Djokovic to be eliminated in the semi-finals – 9/4
Novak Djokovic has proven in recent times that while he is still better than 99% of players on the ATP Tour, he is now firmly behind Sinner and Alcaraz in the pecking order.
The general routine in slams has been Djokovic breezing through to the semis, only to then lose to one of the top two. His form against Alcaraz is more promising than his form against Sinner, so it's bad luck for the Serbian that he has been drawn in the same half as Sinner.
The pair are projected to meet in the semi-final, and barring a miracle, Djokovic will lose.

Good write up. I agree with you on Djokovic losing in the semi. That looks a good bet at a good price.
BTW, Sabalenka isn’t odds-on fav for the tourney. She’s 9/4 against.
