Still chasing a top fair finish, Manchester United travel to Bournemouth for a Premier League fixture on Saturday. United have struggled on their travels lately but with the Cherries also finding things difficult at home, they will be confident of coming out on top.
Sitting eight points clear of the relegation zone with two matches left to play, Bournemouth have secured their Premier League status for another season. They will go into the final two games with the pressure off but will still be keen to end the season on a high.
Although they have ensured their survival, things have not been particularly smooth for Bournemouth in recent weeks. Gary O’Neil’s men have lost three of their last five matches and were beaten 2-0 at Crystal Palace in their previous Premier League fixture.
Things have also been particularly erratic at home for Bournemouth, who have won just three of their last 10 Premier League matches at the Vitality Stadium. They have lost three of the last four matches in that run, including a 3-1 defeat to Chelsea in their previous fixture in front of their fans.
Manchester United are coming off a 2-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers in their previous Premier League fixture. They dominated the contest and could have won by more but in the end, goals in each half from Anthony Martial and Alejandro Garnacho proved to be the difference.
That was a much-needed win for Manchester United as it snapped a run of two straight defeats. The result is also a boost to their Champions League hopes as they remain fourth on the table, just one point ahead of fast rising Liverpool.
One of the factors hampering Manchester United lately is a poor record on their travels as they have won just once in their last seven Premier League matches. At the centre of that poor run is a leaky defence that has kept just one clean sheet.
How the bookies view it
Despite their struggles on the road, Manchester United are still considered overwhelming favourites among the bookies at 18/35 with 10bet. Bournemouth are outsiders at home with BetVictor offering 5/1 for a win while a draw is set at odds of 19/5 with Unibet.
Head to head
Manchester United have an 8-2 advantage with one draw from 11 previous matches against Bournemouth. They also claimed a 3-0 victory in the reverse fixture back in January.
Players to watch
Dominic Solanke has been pivotal for Bournemouth in recent weeks and will be the one to watch on Saturday. The striker has six Premier League goals this season and is priced at 15/4 by William Hill to get on the score sheet.
With top scorer Marcus Rashford still sidelined with injury, Anthony Martial is expected to continue to lead the line for Manchester United. The French forward was on target in the win over Wolves and is priced at 5/2 by Unibet to find the net on Saturday.
Anything else catch the eye?
With Bournemouth and Manchester United not particularly convincing at the back, goals could be expected on Saturday. The Cherries have seen over 3.5 goals in their last two home matches and a repeat is priced at 7/5 by Paddy Power while bet365 is offering odds of 4/7 for over 2.5 goals.
Given the minimal odds for a straight Manchester United victory, a win and over 2.5 goals could be considered at 11/10 with 10bet. There were more goals after the break in the reverse fixture and Saturday’s clash could be tipped to follow a similar pattern at evens with Paddy Power.
