Acca specialist Jamie Kennedy is getting in on the world cup action as he shares his predictions for a World Cup Last 16 Acca.
Argentina To Win to Nil
Argentina continue their quest for World Cup glory when they face Australia at the Ahmad bin Ali Stadium on Saturday night.
Lionel Scaloni’s side bounced back from their shock defeat against Saudi Arabia by claiming top honours in Group C, while the Socceroos defied the odds to emerge from Group D.
However, a last-16 showdown with Lionel Messi Co is likely to be a step too far for the plucky Aussies, with Argentina to win to nil forming the first part of the Acca.
Since losing to Saudi Arabia, the Argies have successfully negotiated two high-pressure assignments whilst shutting out their opponents, and they look a solid pick to repeat the trick against Graham Arnold’s underdogs.
France to Win
France will set out to seal their passage to the quarter-final stage of the World Cup when they take on Poland at the Al-Thumama Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The current holders finished top of the pile in Group C, whereas Poland avoided an early exit by the skin of their teeth having finished as Group C runners-up on goal difference.
In doing so, the White and Red have made it to the knockout round for the first time since 1986, but getting past Les Bleus may be a bridge too far when all is said and done.
Didier Deschamps shuffled his pack in midweek to ensure his megastars are well rested and they should make no mistake against Czesław Michniewicz's men.
England to Score 2+
England’s reward for finishing top of World Cup Group B is a round of 16 clash with Senegal at the Al-Bayt Stadium on Sunday night.
Gareth Southgate’s side earned comfortable victories over both Iran and Wales either side of stalemate with USA.
Meanwhile, Senegal claimed second place in Group A courtesy of a pair of wins over Qatar and Ecuador.
However, Aliou Cissé’s side failed to keep a clean sheet during the group stage – conceding to hapless Qatar in the process- so a double should be within reach for a Three Lions side that have already fired in nine strikes at this year’s finals.
Croatia to Qualify
Having finished second in Group F, Croatia continue their World Cup adventure when they meet Japan in the round of 16 at the Al-Janoub Stadium on Monday afternoon.
After reaching the 2018 final, Zlatko Dalić’s side are daring to dream of another shot at conquering the world, while Japan have already shown that they are capable of a giant killing having topped a section that included Spain and Germany.
That demonstrates Hajime Moriyasu’s men shouldn’t be taken lightly, but they could easily come unstuck against such a well-drilled and streetwise Croatian side.
The Blazers have established a reputation for being a team who are extremely difficult to play through and break down, so backing them to qualify is the bet.
