While many punters naturally gravitate towards backing a winner, betting on a draw can be a smart and rewarding alternative.

This is because bookmakers typically assign bigger odds to stalemates, which occur less often than victories for either team.

With that in mind, let’s examine this weekend’s fixtures and identify the games where draw outcomes present the best value.

Cardiff vs Birmingham (Saturday, 15:00)

Cardiff have been one of the draw specialists in the English Championship this season, and another stalemate looks like a strong possibility when they host Birmingham on Saturday.

The Bluebirds have drawn five of their 11 league games, which is a joint league-high, with the most recent coming in last weekend’s 2-2 draw away at Middlesbrough. Notably, Brian Barry-Murphy’s men have yet to lose a league game at home this season, winning two and drawing the other three.

Birmingham have picked up a bit of form of late, but they have also drawn five of their opening 11 league games of the season, further strengthening the case for the points to be shared in the Welsh capital this weekend.

Dundee United vs Aberdeen (Saturday, 15:00)

A tight tussle could be on the cards when Dundee United take on Aberdeen at Tannadice in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday. The two teams are separated by just one point and one place in the middle of the table.

While Dundee United have drawn only two of their opening eight league games of the season, the most recent of those came away at St Johnstone last weekend. What’s more, Jim Goodwin’s side were also held to a 1-1 draw when they hosted Falkirk last month.

Aberdeen’s most recent top-flight road trip ended in a 1-1 draw away at Hibernian, and the same scoreline here wouldn’t come as a major surprise.

Falkirk vs Kilmarnock (Saturday, 15:00)

Falkirk and Kilmarnock face off in a crunch clash at the foot of the Scottish Premiership table on Saturday.

The pair occupy two of the bottom four places, with just one point between them. However, both teams have shown signs of improvement of late, suggesting this could be a closer contest than the bookies’ odds indicate.

Moreover, Falkirk have drawn three of their nine league games this season, while two of Kilmarnock’s last five top-flight fixtures have ended all square.

So, all things considered, a share of the spoils looks good value at the Falkirk Stadium.
