After delivering back-to-back winners in midweek, SlipsTips shares a double ahead of this weekend's Scottish League Cup action.
Buckie Thistle vs Falkirk (Saturday, 15:00)
Falkirk will be bidding to get their Scottish League Cup campaign back on track when they pay Buckie Thistle a visit on Saturday afternoon.
The Bairns made an impressive start in Group B by beating top seeds Dundee United 2-0 last weekend before being edged out 1-0 by Ayr United on Tuesday night.
As for Buckie Thistle, they were swatted aside 4-0 by last season’s Scottish League Two winners Stenhousemuir at Ochilview on matchday one.
Lewis MacKinnon’s men now face a much sterner test when they welcome Scottish Championship new boys Falkirk to Victoria Park.
Realistically, John McGlynn’s men will have to win their final two group games to stand any chance of progressing to the last 16 and they should get the job done against their Highland League hosts.
Given that goal difference could be absolutely crucial in the race for top spot in the pool, I’m backing the Bairns to score at least two goals as the first leg of an 11/12 double with William Hill.
Edinburgh City vs Partick Thistle (Saturday, 15:00)
Partick Thistle will set out to make it two wins from two in Scottish League Cup Group G when they meet Edinburgh City at Meadowbank on Saturday afternoon.
Kris Doolan’s side hit the ground running last weekend by claiming a 3-2 win over Scottish League One outfit Montrose.
Edinburgh, in contrast, are rooted to the foot of the section following a pair of heavy 3-0 and 5-0 losses at the hands of both Motherwell and Clyde respectively.
The Bully Wee justified my faith in supporting them against Edinburgh in midweek and the Jags are expected to follow suit by claiming a comfortable three points in the capital.
Siding with Partick to win is simply unbackable at the odds on offer so instead opt for the men from Maryhill to make the net bulge in each half.
Doolan’s side delivered goals either side of the interval in their aforementioned success against Montrose, while the struggling Citizens have shipped a minimum of one goal in each of their four halves of football in this season’s Scottish League Cup so far.
