After delivering a winner in each of his three columns over the weekend, SlipsTips shares a selection ahead of Real Madrid’s clash with Marseille in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
Real Madrid vs Marseille (Tuesday, 20:00)
Two former Champions League winners will square off at the Santiago Bernabeu on matchday one, as Real Madrid take on Marseille on Tuesday night.
No club can match Real Madrid’s history in this competition, with the Spanish heavyweights getting set to begin their pursuit of what would be a record-extending 16th title.
As for 1993 winners Marseille, they will be looking to make a splash on their return to the Champions League, having last featured in the competition back in the 2022-23 campaign.
Having won each of their four matches in La Liga this season, it’s no surprise to see Real Madrid as heavy odds-on favourites to hit the ground running on Tuesday night.
However, I’m going to bypass the outright betting here and instead propose a play on a player-based selection which holds plenty of appeal.
Angel Gomes can be backed at 5/6 on Bet365 to commit at least one foul on Tuesday night and that looks well worthy of support.
While Gomes only signed for Marseille during the summer transfer window, he has been a frequent offender from a foul perspective across the early weeks of the season.
In fact, the 25-year-old midfielder has averaged 1.27 fouls per 90 across his opening four appearances of the season for Marseille in Ligue 1.
Dig a little deeper and it can be seen that Gomes has been guilty of at least one offence in each of his last three outings in the French top-flight, including two away from home against Lyon.
On top of that, the former Manchester United man has been booked in each of his previous two appearances for Marseille in Ligue 1, most recently tackling his way into trouble in a 4-0 home win over Lorient on Friday night.
Given the calibre of opposition that Gomes will be coming up against in the Spanish capital on Tuesday night, it would be fair to say that he should have plenty of defensive work to get through.
So with all that in mind, a minimum of one foul from Gomes on Tuesday night simply looks too big to ignore at 5/6 with Bet365.
