The axe finally fell on the beleaguered Belgian in the wake of a 2-0 defeat at home to St Mirren on Saturday, with former captain Barry Ferguson placed in interim charge for the remainder of the campaign. 

As for Kilmarnock, they will be looking to boost their top six hopes after falling to a last-gasp 1-0 defeat at Aberdeen on Saturday.

For the first leg of what will be a Bet Builder double, I’ll back Rangers to earn five or more corners at Rugby Park on Wednesday night. As tends to be the case, Rangers have been pretty prolific on the corner front in the Scottish Premiership this season. In fact, the Light Blues are averaging seven corners per-game in the top-flight this term, a tally bettered only by champions-elect Celtic. 

Rangers clocked up six corners when the pair last crossed paths in Ayrshire back in October before going one better at Ibrox in December. In fact, defending corners is something that Kilmarnock will have become relatively accustomed to this season, given the fact they are conceding an average of 5.81 flag-kicks per 90. Expect to see that trend continue when they go up against a Rangers team that will be out to impress new manager Ferguson.

Over 1 Kilmarnock Card

I’m more than happy to conclude the Bet Builder double by backing Kilmarnock to collect two or more cards during this contest. Kilmarnock are among the most ill-disciplined teams in the Scottish top flight this term. Derek McInnes’ men are receiving an average of 2.04 yellow cards per game this season, not to mention they have racked up an eye-watering seven red cards across their opening 27 Scottish Premiership assignments of the season. 

Rangers, on the other hand, are drawing an average of 2.04 cards per game from their Scottish Premiership opponents this season, with 12 of their previous 19 top flight foes tackling their way into trouble twice or more. That 19-game sample includes Rangers’ 6-0 drubbing of Kilmarnock towards the tail end of 2024 

On top of all this, referee Don Robertson is averaging north of four yellow cards per game in the Scottish Premiership this season, and that only adds to the appeal of backing Killie to have a minimum of two cards flashed in their direction on Wednesday night.
