Saturday’s football tips: Chelsea overpriced to pile on the pain for City

It will be fascinating to see how Manchester City respond to their Paris pummelling when Chelsea come calling tonight in the Premier League.

Pep Guardiola's side seemed to be getting back on track after a six-game run without defeat that included 8-0 and 6-0 wins over Salford and Ipswich respectively.

But the defensive frailties that saw them win just once in 13 games earlier this season resurfaced against PSG in the Champions League as City blew a 2-0 lead in a chastening 4-2 defeat.

Like PSG, Chelsea boost the pace and power in attack to cause Manchester City problems and will fancy their chances at Etihad after having a free midweek to prepare.

With City coming off the back of a draining and demoralising European defeat in midweek, I'm surprised to see them as evens favourites with BoyleSports. Chelsea look overpriced at 9/4 and backing them in the double chance also offers decent enough value at 4/5.

Guardiola has spent big in the January window to refresh his ageing squad but bringing the new boys in for debuts against a team as dangerous as the Blues would represent a gamble. He may need to rejig his defence though with Ruben Dias an injury doubt so over 1.5 Chelsea goals also appeals at evens.

Enzo Maresca's defence hasn't look convincing this season either so we should see plenty of action at both ends. Over 1.5 first-half strikes is priced at 21/20 by BoyleSports and that looks good value.

Liverpool vs Ipswich Town top betting tips

Ipswich are still licking their wounds after that hammering by City last weekend so the last thing they need right now is a trip to Anfield to face league leaders Liverpool.

The Reds haven't been at their brilliant best in recent weeks and needed a deflected goal to see off 10-man Lille in the Champions League on Tuesday.

But BoyleSports still make them 1/10 hot favourites against the Tractor Boys, having beaten the promoted side 2-0 on day one at Portman Road.

It's hard finding value with Arne Slot's side such heavy favourites but Cody Gakpo is a decent 11/10 for anytime scorer.

The Dutchman got the night off in midweek so should be fresh for this one and backing him to score from outside the box boosts the odds to 11/2.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Arsenal top betting tips

Arsenal dropped two precious points at home to Aston Villa last weekend so they can ill afford another slip away to struggling Wolverhampton Wanderers today.

Wolves got a new manager boost when Vitor Pereira arrived as they collected seven points in his first three games. But they have since lost three Premier League games in a row, shipping three goals in each match.

So it's easy to see why BoyleSports make the Gunners 2/5 favourites today, although backing Arsenal to be winning at half-time and full-time boosts the odds to 6/5.

Pereira isn't the kind of coach who parks the bus so this should be an open game. Mikel Arteta's men are usually good value for corners and over 10.5 flag kicks pays 23/20 at BoyleSports.
