Tottenham Hotspur vs AFC Bournemouth

, KO: 14:00 , Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
AFC Bournemouth

AFC Bournemouth will be hoping Tottenham Hotspur are suffering from a Europa League hangover when the Cherries head to London looking to boost their own prospects for European football next season.

The Cherries have never graced continental competition before but they're in with a chance this season and are still in the pack of teams who are in with a shout of earning a seat at Europe's top table.

The bookies can't see them finishing in the top four, with Bournemouth priced at 10/1 in that market after losing their last two Premier League games to Wolves and Brighton.

But Andoni Iraola's men bounced back with a shootout win over Wolves in the FA Cup last weekend and will fancy their chances against a Spurs side coming off the back of a Thursday night defeat in Europe.

Ange Postecoglou's men need to win the Europa League to salvage their season but have some work to do in their last-16 tie after losing 1-0 away to AZ Alkmaar in a game wher shot-shy Spurs let down Slips Tips badly.

The second leg is looming this Thursday so Tottenham might have one eye on that clash with their Premier League season effectively over.

How the bookies view it: So tight in Tottenham

This is a tough one to call and it's reflected in the odds, with Spurs 6/4 at BoyleSports and Bournemouth priced at 7/5. The draw will be popular at 11/4 but I fancy the Cherries after watching a pitiful Tottenham display on Thursday.

Recent head to head: Spurs hold the edge

Bournemouth beat Spurs 1-0 on the south coast earlier this season but it's Tottenham who have held the upper hand in recent years. Across the last 13 meetings, they've won eight times and lost just three. It ended in a 3-1 home win when the Cherries came calling last term.

Players to watch: Justin a fresh Cherry

Justin Kluivert started on the bench for Bournemouth in last week's cup tie but should return to the starting line-up for this one. He has 13 goals to his name this term and is 7/4 at BoyleSports to add to that tally.

Winger Brennan Johnson has posted some impressive numbers for Tottenham this season, with a double at Ipswich last month taking his tally to 14. He's always a goal threat and is 9/4 for anytime scorer here.

Probable line-ups

Tottenham's injury worries are easing with key players Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven available again. But Dejan Kulusevski is unlikely to be back until after the international break while Dominic Solanke was crocked again after making his comeback on Thursday. Radu Dragusin, Ben Davies and Richarlison are also set to miss out.

Bournemouth's Illia Zabarnyi is still suspended while Ryan Christie is a doubt after missing last week's cup tie with injury. Adam Smith, Eres Unal, Marco Senesi and Julian Araujo are all sidelined.

Tottenham Hotspur: Vicario, Spence, Danso, Gray, Udogie, Maddison, Bissouma, Bergvall, Odobert, Johnson, Tel.

AFC Bournemouth: Kepa, Huijsen, Kerkez, Cook, Hill, Brooks, Scott, Adams, Kluivert, Semenyo, Ouattara.

Anything else catch the eye?

We only saw one goal when these sides faced off earlier this season but this should be a more open and entertaining encounter.

It's not in either manager's style to sit back so that's why BTTS and over 2.5 goals pays just 11/20 at Bournemouth. Adding on an extra goal to that bet boosts the odds to 11/10 while over 1.5 first-half goals is also decent at evens.

Tottenham are usually pretty good value for corners and they've won eight or more in their last three at home. So I like the 9/5 on offer at BoyleSports for over 2.5 Spurs corners in each half.
