Arsenal will look to strengthen their position at the top of the Premier League on Saturday night as they travel to the Stadium of Light to take on fourth-placed Sunderland.
Arsenal extended their winning run to five matches in the Premier League last weekend, as they recorded a 0-2 victory away at Burnley, on an afternoon in which both of my selections landed.
That result moved The Gunners six points clear of nearest challengers Manchester City, with their only dropped points coming away at champions Liverpool and at home to the Citizens (W8-D1-L1).
Mikel Arteta’s men also preserved their 100% start to their Champions League campaign on Tuesday night, as they secured a comfortable 0-3 victory in the Czech capital against Slavia Prague.
Sunderland have enjoyed a fairytale return to the Premier League, as they currently sit in third position, seven points behind their visitors, but only behind second-placed Manchester City.
However, Regis Le Bris’s men did see their two-match winning run come to an end on Monday night, as they were forced to settle for a point at home to Everton.
That draw did preserve The Black Cats’ unbeaten record at home in the Premier League this season (W3-D2-L0), but all five of those came against teams currently in the bottom half of the table.
How the bookies view it: Gunners favourites
It’s unsurprising to see Arsenal chalked up as short-priced favourites given their form, with BOYLE Sports pricing an away success at just 4/11.
Sunderland are a massive 15/2 to inflict a second defeat of the season for the North London side, whilst the draw is 16/5.

Head to head: Arsenal dominance
Arsenal have dominated this fixture over the past decade or so, as they are unbeaten in each of their last 12 meetings with The Black Cats, winning nine of the past 11 (W9-D2-L0).
Players to watch: Declan with another delivery?
Arsenal reputation for being strong from set-pieces for the past two or three seasons continued to grow last week, with Declan Rice’s prowess from a dead ball being a key part of their attacking arsenal.
The England international has three assists and two goals to his name already for The Gunners this season – including scoring the second at Turf Moor last weekend and providing an assist in Prague in midweek – and is an appealing 6/4 to Score or Assist at the Stadium of Light on Saturday.
Predicted line-ups:
Sunderland also have a few players missing through injury, with Omar Alderete, Habib Diarra, Leo Hjelde, Romaine Mundle, Dennis Cirkin and Aji Alese all expected to be out.
Mikel Arteta will be without Gabriel Jesus, Kai Havertz, Martin Odegaard, Noni Madueke, Gabriel Martinelli, and Viktor Gyokeres due to injury.
Sunderland: Roefs, Hume, Mukiele, Ballard Geertruida, Reinaldo, Xhaka, Sadiki, Traore, Le Fee, Isidor
Arsenal: Raya, Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, Calafiori, Zubimendi, Eze, Rice, Saka, Trossard, Merino
Anything else catch the eye?
I successfully backed a low-scoring victory for Arsenal in their trip to Burnley last weekend, and I see no reason to change my approach here.
Seven of the Gunners’ eight Premier League wins have featured fewer than four goals, and a repeat pays 10/11 at BOYLE Sports, which appeals to me here.
Mikel Arteta’s visitors have conceded three goals in the Premier League all season, and have also kept a clean sheet in 7/8 (88%) of their victories, and an Arsenal Win to Nil pays 20/21 at BOYLE Sports, which also appeals.
