Ross County vs Aberdeen

, KO: 15:00 May 19, 2024, Victoria Park
Aberdeen

ROSS COUNTY host Aberdeen on the final league game of the season as they battle to avoid the relegation play-offs for a second successive year.

The Staggies have a two-point advantage over St Johnstone, but they have an inferior goal difference so a point at home wouldn't be enough if Saints won at Motherwell at the same time on Sunday.

They must be downbeat after conceding a last gasp equaliser in the big showdown against St Johnstone on Wednesday night when they were minutes from confirmed safety in a 1-1 draw.

County could boast an excellent home record until last weekend when they crashed to a nightmare 5-1 defeat at home to Motherwell, but previously they defeated Rangers, Hearts and Hibs in Dingwall.

They face an Aberdeen team who are ending the season in sensational form. They have won all four games after the split and netted nine in their last two games – a 4-0 win at Hibs and a 5-1 thumping of Livingston.

It's a case of what could have been for the Dons, who had struggled for most of the season before caretaker boss Peter Leven completely transformed their fortunes.

How the bookies view it: Nothing between them

Ross County's need to win is greater than Aberdeen's, but the Dons' hot form sees bet365 unable to split the teams with both 29/20. The draw is 5/2.

Recent head to heads: Dons far too good

Ross County are the only team in the league that Aberdeen can boast a 100 per cent record against this season and for good measure, they also won in Dingwall in the League Cup too this term.

Aberdeen are unbeaten in their last five visits north.

Players to watch: Yan the man

Yan Dhanda has already signed a pre-contract with Hearts, but will be desperate to sign off by keeping County safe. He netted in midweek in Perth and is 15/4 to score anytime with bet365.

Bojan Miovski was handed a rare rest from the bench in midweek and this could be the last time Aberdeen fans get to see him with a big money move touted for the North Macedonian international striker in the summer. He is 7/4 to score anytime with bet365.

Probable line-ups:

County are set to be without Max Sheaf, Dylan Smith, Scott Allardice and Ross Callachan. Aberdeen are injury free.

Ross County: Laidlaw, Nightingale, Baldwin, Leak, Efete, Randall, King, Harmon, Dhanda, Murray, White.

Aberdeen: Roos, Devlin, Gartenmann, MacDonald, McKenzie, Shinnie, Polvara, McGrath, Barron, Hoilett, Miovski.

Anything else catch the eye?

Aberdeen are on fire at the moment and they look to be too strong for County here…no matter how desperate their plight is.

There's no chance of the Dons taking their foot off the gas with the imminent arrival of new boss Jimmy Thelin and they are creating some amount of chances at the moment too, which the likes of Bojan Miovski should relish.

However, the Staggies nearly always find a way to goal so they should add to the contest. Bet365's 7/2 for an away win and both teams to score is very tempting here too.
