RANGERS will look to extend their winning run in the Scottish Premiership to six matches on Saturday as they welcome St Mirren to Ibrox.
A week on from their embarrassing and humiliating Scottish Cup exit to Queens Park, Rangers returned to winning ways with a 1-3 victory away at Hearts, where a Man of the Match performance from Gers goalkeeper Jack Butland downed both of my selections.
Whilst they were perhaps fortunate to leave the capital with all three points, that’s now five successive Premiership wins for Clement’s side, and they will be confident of extending that to six at Ibrox on Saturday.
They take on a St Mirren side who were held to a goalless draw at home to Hibs on Sunday, moving them back up into the top six, albeit only by goal difference.
Stephen Robinson’s side claimed a 0-3 victory away at Aberdeen in their last road trip, however, that’s their only win in their last seven Premiership matches (W1-D1-L5), failing to even score a goal in five of their previous six.
How the bookies view it: Gers clear favourites
Unsurprisingly, The Gers are clear favourites to make it 13 wins from 14 in the Premiership at home, as they are just 2/11 at BoyleSports to claim all three points.
St Mirren are priced at 11/1 to claim a surprise victory with the same firm, whilst the draw is trading at 11/2.
Head to head: Rangers Dominance of late
Rangers have been victorious in 13 of the past 15 meetings with The Buddies (W13-D1-L1), but St Mirren did secure a late victory in their last meeting in Paisley on Boxing Day.
Players to watch: Cerny to continue to score at Ibrox
Czechia winger Vaclav Cerny has scored 10 goals in his past 14 appearances at Ibrox, and put Rangers 1-2 ahead in their recent victory at Tynecastle.
Toyosi Olusanya is The Buddies leading scorer in the Premiership with seven this season and bagged the opener in their last away match at Pittodrie.
Probable line-ups
Rangers are missing defenders Neraysho Kasanwirjo and Dujon Sterling, as well as winger Oscar Cortes.
The Buddies will be without defender Alex Iacovitti and midfielder Conor McMenamin.
Rangers: Butland, Tavernier, Nsiala, Souttar, Jefte, Raskin, Diomande, Hagi, Cerny, Igamane, Dessers
St Mirren: Hemming, Fraser, Gogic, Taylor, Bwomono, Boyd-Munce, O’Hara, Phillips, John, Mandron, Olusanya
Anything else catch the eye?
After the news of a potential takeover for Rangers broke on Wednesday night, the mood of the fans has lifted dramatically, and whilst their domestic season is all but over, they will be expected to claim a sixth Premiership victory on the bounce.
Whilst Rangers have struggled on their travels domestically this season, they have been near faultless at home, winning 12 of their 13 Premiership contests in front of their supporters this term (W12-D1-L0).
Phillipe Clement’s hosts have conceded just four goals at home in the Premiership all season – and given St Mirren have failed to score in five of their last six Premiership matches – I’m happy to back a Rangers Win to Nil here.
