BARRY Ferguson will look to make it two wins from two as interim Rangers boss as they welcome Motherwell to Ibrox on Saturday afternoon.
Rangers decided to sack Phillipe Clement as Rangers manager following another poor defeat at home to St Mirren last Saturday at Ibrox and swiftly placed club legend Barry Ferguson in interim charge until the end of the season.
It was a nightmare opening quarter of an hour for Ferguson in his first match in charge of Rangers at Rugby Park on Wednesday night, with The Gers trailing by two goals to nil and on course for more away-day misery.
However, after making a change at the back after 30 minutes, Rangers got themselves a goal back before halftime – which landed both of my selections – before three second-half goals saw the new boss make a winning start to life in charge of his boyhood club.
Motherwell themselves are under new management, with German Michael Wimmer taking the reigns from Stuart Kettlewell halfway through the month.
Unlike Ferguson, Wimmer lost his first match in charge of The Steelmen narrowly at Tannadice against Dundee United last weekend, but he did get his first win under his belt on Wednesday with a 2-1 success at home to Dundee.
How the bookies view it: Barry backed to make it two wins from two
BoyleSports make Rangers 2/13 favourites to back up their win at Kilmarnock on Wednesday night
The same firm makes Motherwell 12/1 underdogs to repeat their win last March, whilst the draw is 13/2.
Head to head: Motherwell been awkward opponents for Gers recently
Rangers have beaten Motherwell twice at Hampden this season – once in the league and the other in the League Cup – but drew 2-2 at Fir Park at the end of 2024 and lost in their clash at Ibrox last March.
Players to watch: Cerny to continue to score at Ibrox
Czechia winger Vaclav Cerny has scored 10 goals in his past 15 appearances at Ibrox and got Rangers back in the game at Rugby Park on Wednesday night.
Motherwell defender Dan Casey scored both goals in their 2-1 victory over Dundee on Wednesday and also netted the winner on their last trip to Ibrox last March.
Probable line-ups
Rangers are missing defenders Neraysho Kasanwirjo, John Souttar and Dujon Sterling, whilst Yilmaz may start for Nsiala, who was taken off after a 30-minute horror show on Wednesday night.
Motherwell have a lengthy injury list, with Aston Oxborough, Archie Mair, Paul McGinn, Ross Callachan, Jack Vale and striker Apostolos Stamatelopolous all out.
Rangers: Butland, Yilmaz, Tavernier, Propper, Jefte, Raskin, Diomande, Hagi, Cerny, Igamane, Dessers
Motherwell: Balcombe, O’Donnell, Gordon, Casey, Sparrow, Halliday, Miller, Slattery, Thompson, Armstrong, Andrews
Anything else catch the eye?
After an awful opening 30 minutes at Killie on Wednesday night, ‘Bazball’ came into full effect, with Rangers scoring four very good goals and perhaps should’ve had a couple more.
One of the keys to their turnaround was a Man of the Match performance from top-scorer Cyriel Dessers, with The Nigerian not only scoring the equaliser but scoring the third goal that put The Teddy Bears ahead.
Dessers has already scored against Motherwell at Hampden in both the Premiership and the League Cup this campaign and is worth backing to score against The Steelmen on Saturday afternoon.
