Newcastle United vs Wolverhampton Wanderers

, KO: 20:00 Apr 8, 2022, St James' Park
Wolverhampton Wanderers

NEWCASTLE UNITED will be looking to halt a three-game losing streak in the Premier League when they welcome Wolverhampton Wanderers to St James' Park on Friday night.

Eddie Howe's side eased their relegation fears following a nine-game unbeaten run in the top-flight between late December and early March.

However, three subsequent losses, the most recent of which was a 5-1 trouncing at Tottenham, has left the Geordie faithful looking over their shoulders again as their buffer on the bottom-three has been trimmed to seven points.

Therefore, the Magpies will be looking to put some more breathing space between themselves and the drop zone when Wolves come to town on Friday night.

Bruno Lage' side have performed well above expectations to sit just five points off a much-coveted Champions League spot with seven rounds of fixtures left to play.

After suffering a second-half collapse at home to Leeds before the international break, the Old Gold returned to winning ways last Saturday with a well-deserved 2-1 victory over Midlands rivals Aston Villa.

Outright Betting

Newcastle United, who have won just four of their 14 Premier League home games this season, head into this game as 15/11 (SBK) favourites.

Despite avoiding defeat in each of their last eight encounters with Newcastle, Wolverhampton Wanderers are 13/5 (SBK) outsiders while the draw is trading at 28/13 (SBK).

Betting Angles

I successfully backed Both Teams to Score in Newcastle's aforementioned loss at Spurs last Sunday and I'm happy to side with the same selection at St James' Park on Friday night at 24/23 (SBK).

Newcastle have entertained their own supporters all season, with both teams getting on the scoresheet in 10 the Toons' 14 top flight outings on home turf this term to date.

What's more, Eddie Howe's hosts have posted a lowly four clean sheets across their 30 league games this season so far, failing to shut out their opponents in each of their last five league games.

Whilst matches involving the men from Molineux have tended to be tight affairs this term, some of  their defensive solidity has disappeared in the Premier League in recent weeks.

Bruno Lage's backline has been breached in six of their last eight Premier League matches, with both teams obliging in each of their last two outings.

With that in mind, as well as the fact that the same bet banked in the reverse fixture, I'm happy to side with the same wager here at 24/23 (SBK) in what should be an enjoyable Friday night fixture under the lights.

I'll also head to the player card market and have a punt on Wolves' Jonny Castro to pick up a card at 4/1 with Bet 365.

The Spanish wing-back, who was cautioned against Aston Villa weekend, could have his hands full here against Newcastle speed machine Allan Saint-Maximin, who's electric pace continues to cause opposition defenders all sorts of problems.
