Newcastle United vs Everton

, KO: 19:30 Apr 2, 2024, St James' Park
Everton

EVERTON desperately need a win after being dragged back into the Premier League relegation dogfight but will fancy their chances against a Newcastle United side who are decimated with injuries and suspensions.

St James' Park was rocking at the weekend as the Magpies came from 3-1 down against West Ham to claim a thrilling 4-3 victory that kept them in the hunt for European football.

But it came at a cost with Jamaal Lascelles and Tino Livramento both forced off injured before two of Eddie Howe's substitutes – Emil Krafth and Miguel Almiron – had to be taken off themselves.

To make matters worse, creative force Anthony Gordon was also sent off in injury time which means he will also have to sit out the visit of Sean Dyche's men. Newcastle United are down to the bare bones again but their starting XI still might be too strong for a demoralised Everton side.

Seamus Coleman's devastating stoppage-time own goal condemned the Toffees to a 2-1 defeat at Bournemouth on Saturday, with two bets landing for our man Gabriel, and it's now nine games without a win for Everton.

It has left the Toffees just three points above the drop zone, albeit with a game in hand, so they need to start finding some momentum ahead of what promises to be another tense end to the season.

A lack of firepower is costing Dyche at the moment, with just four goals scored in their last six games, but he will take heart at how easily West Ham cut through Howe's defence at St James' Park on Saturday.

How the bookies view it

Despite having so many key players out injured, Newcastle United are odds-on favourites with most firms, although you can back them at evens with 888Sport. Everton's best price is 13/5 at Unibet and the draw will be popular at 29/10 with the same firm.

Recent head to head

There hasn't been much between these sides of late, with the last 15 meetings producing seven Everton victories, six Newcastle wins and two draws. It ended in a 3-0 win for the Toffees at Goodison Park earlier this season while the Magpies claimed a 1-0 win in the last meeting at St James' Park.

Players to watch

Alexander Isak kept a cool head from the spot on Saturday with a penalty double and his tally for club and country now stands at 19 this season. The Swede is 13/10 at Paddy Power for another goal here while the same firm price him at evens for a goal or assist.

Abdoulaye Doucoure made a welcome return from injury at the weekend for Everton and the midfielder is always a goal threat. He's 3/1 with Bet365 for a seventh goal of the season while Paddy Power price him at 21/10 to score or assist.

Anything else catch the eye?

Although Everton haven't been winning games, they are still a tough team to beat. Four of their last eight matches have ended in draws and that figure would have been six had they not conceded stoppage-time goals against West Ham and Bournemouth. With Newcastle United having so many players out, the Toffees could get something at St James' Park and backing them in the double-chance market pays a decent 9/10 at Unibet.

Dyche's side have won 16 corners in their last two matches while Newcastle have managed just five. That suggests Everton +2 in the corner handicap stands a great chance at 20/21 with BetVictor while backing the Toffees for most corners boosts the odds to 13/5 at LiveScoreBet.

Everton's Amadou Onana is always at the heat of the midfield battle and has picked up yellows in his last two Premier League outings. The Belgian is 2/1 with Bet365 to go into the book again here.
