LYON can guarantee top spot in Group G with a win and should get it against a RB Leipzig side that has already qualified for the last 16.
But it says everything about this tightest of Champions League groups that defeat could send the French side crashing out of Europe altogether.
If Lyon lose and Benfica beat Zenit in the other group game then they would slump to the bottom of the section and miss out on the consolation of a Europa League slot.
But a victory over the Germans would see them leapfrog Leipzig at the summit while a draw would be enough to take them through to the last 16 if Zenit lose in Lisbon.
RB Leipzig secured their spot in the last 16 in dramatic fashion on Matchday Five, coming from 2-0 down to snatch a point at home to Benfica with two late Emil Forsberg goals.
But they will still want to seal top spot in the section by getting the point they need to secure an easier tie in the last 16.
How the bookies view it
Lyon are slight favourites at a best 31/20 with Unibet while the Germans are 19/10 with SkyBet. The draw is priced 27/10 at BetVictor and can't be ruled out but I think home advantage will give the Ligue 1 side the edge, especially as they have more to play for.
To increase the odds on a Lyon win, double it with both teams to score at 16/5 with Betfair.
Head to head
The clash on Matchday Two is the only previous meeting between the sides. Lyon claimed a surprise 2-0 win in Germany thanks to goals from Memphis Depay and Martin Terrier (below).
Form guide
Lyon's form has been patchy, winning three and losing three of their last six games. They crushed Nimes 4-0 in Ligue 1 at the weekend but three of their goals came after the home side had been reduced to nine men.
Leipzig, in stark contrast, have been a model of consistency. They are unbeaten in eight games, winning seven, and the only blip was that 2-2 draw with Benfica.
Team news
Youssouf Kone and Leo Dubois are injured for Lyon while Rafael and Fernando Mercal are doubts. Leipzig have Kevin Kampl, Willi Orban and Ibrahima Konate out but Tyler Adams is back in training.
Yussuf Poulsen made his return from injury as a sub in the weekend win over Hoffenheim and may feature again here.
Players to watch
Memphis Depay was missed by Lyon at Zenit last time out as they crashed 2-0 in the Dutch talisman's absence. I tipped the draw that night but the French side were well beaten, although my bet on Artem Dzyuba to score did come up.
Depay (below) is now back from injury and netted twice in the win at Nimes. He has scored in every Champions League match he has played in this season so I'll be backing him again at 13/8 with Betfred for anytime scorer.
Leipzig goal machine Timo Werner is 7/5 with Unibet to score and that looks good value, provided boss Julian Nagelsmann doesn't leave surprisingly leave him on the bench like he did for the last Euro away day at Zenit.
Anything else catch the eye?
A one-goal winning margin for either side appeals at 7/5 with Betway while a card for Lyon's Joachim Andersen catches the eye at 13/4 with Unibet, given the Dane was booked against Zenit last time out in Europe.
