Livingston vs Inverness Caledonian Thistle Prediction and Betting Tips

LIVINGSTON and Inverness both got off to winning starts in the Premier Sports Cup at the weekend so top spot in Group G should be the prize for whoever edges this clash at the Tony Macaroni Arena.

I tipped Caley Thistle to win a close game against Kelty Hearts on Saturday but the Highlanders made me sweat before George Oakley popped up late on to seal a 1-0 victory.

It looked like Livingston would have a much easier time at Albion Rovers as they strolled into a 3-0 lead, with Josh Mullin bringing up one of my weekend Super Singles.

But David Martindale's men got a bit sloppy and had to cling on for a 3-2 win as the League Two minnows scored twice in the second half. That came after Livi leaked three goals in a friendly defeat to Morton so there's clearly some defensive work they need to sharpen up on.

Inverness will certainly fancy their chances of scoring in West Lothian after smashing six past St Johnstone in one of their warm-up games. 

Billy Dodds' men only just missed out on promotion after losing to Saints in the play-off final but look to have a decent squad as they bid for the Championship title this term.

That means Livingston will have to up their game if they want to stay on track for progression to the knockout stages in a tricky group that also contains Championship new boys Cove Rangers.

Caley Thistle have bossed this fixture of late, losing just one of the last seven meetings and winning four of those matches. It's the first time these sides have faced off since a Scottish Cup game in 2020 that Inverness edged 1-0 in the Highlands (below).

Players to watch

Bruce Anderson was flying for Livingston last season before a serious injury effectively brought his campaign to an end. He scored off the bench at the weekend and should start here but I've yet to see any goalscorer prices.

Austin Samuels is always a threat for Inverness with his pace and could get some joy against a Livingston defence that has been leaking goals.

Anything else catch the eye?

This isn't a fixture that has delivered a lot of goals in recent times, with just four strikes across the last four meetings. But that could end in this cup tie on the evidence of Livingston's opening game and Caley Thistle's friendly thrashing of St Johnstone. Over 2.5 goals is priced 23/20 at BetVictor and that looks worth a punt while BTTS is 20/23 with the same firm.
