Girona continue their push for a top four finish as they travel to struggling Las Palmas for a La Liga fixture on Saturday. Girona have found things difficult in recent weeks but will be counting in their solid record in this fixture and should have the edge over Las Palmas, who are unconvincing at home.
Las Palmas are coming off a 4-1 defeat at Celta Vigo in their previous La Liga fixture. They struck early in the first half through Juanma Herzog but soon capitulated and went on to be breached four times.
That defeat was not a one-off as Las Palmas have struggled lately, failing to win any of their last eight matches. They are currently on a five match losing run but still hold a solid 12 point lead above the relegation zone.
Las Palmas have also struggled at the Estadio de Gran Canaria, where they have won just once in their last seven matches. They have been beaten five times in that run and head into Saturday’s clash off the back of three straight home defeats.
Girona travel to Las Palmas off the back of a 4-1 victory over Cadiz last time out in La Liga. Eric Garcia and Ivan Martin struck early in the contest while Artem Dovbyk and Portu added further goals after the break.
Michel Sanchez’s men are still pushing for a Champions League finish and are currently third on the table, 10 points above fifth placed Athletic Bilbao. They have claimed four wins from their last seven La Liga matches.
One of the major problems for Girona in recent weeks is a poor record on their travels having lost their last five away matches. However, with victories at Sevilla, Villarreal and Barcelona under their belt this season, they will still head to Las Palmas with some confidence.
How the bookies view it
Girona have been installed as overwhelming favourites among the bookies and are priced at 10/13 by 10bet to claim the win. Las Palmas are considered outsiders, with a victory priced at 17/5 by Unibet while a draw is set at odds of 3/1 by Willi Hill.
Head to head
Girona have a 9-7 edge with seven draws from 23 previous matches against Las Palmas. Girona are also unbeaten in the last four meetings, claiming three wins in that run, including a 1-0 victory in the reverse fixture back in September.
Players to watch
Las Palmas have spread their goals across the team this season but Sandro Ramirez often leads the line and could be worth keeping an eye on . The striker is priced at 10/3 to find the net on Saturday.
As always Artem Dovbyk will be the one to watch for Girona as he looks to add to his 17 La Liga goals. The striker has also found the net four times in the last three matches and is priced at 10/11 by BetVictor to maintain his scoring run.
Anything else catch the eye?
Las Palmas and Girona both saw over 3.5 goals in their previous La Liga fixtures and a repeat could be on the cards at 15/8 by BetVictor. Over 2.5 goals could also be considered at 8/11 with bet365, who is also offering 7/10 on both teams to score.
Nine of Artem Dovbyk’s 18 La Liga goals have been the opener and the striker could be backed to score first at 10/3 with Paddy Power. Girona scored in both halves in their previous fixture and could be set for a repeat at 13/8 with bet365.
