Inter Milan begin the defence of their Coppa Italia title as they welcome Bologna to San Siro for a round of 16 fixture. The Nerazzurri have eased past most of their opponents across all competitions and although Bologna are showing some quality lately, they should be no match for the Serie A leaders.
Inter Milan are making their first appearance in this season’s Coppa Italia having drawn a bye from the previous rounds. The reigning champions have impressed across all competitions this season and will be aiming to retain their title.
It has been a spectacular first half of the season for Inter Milan, who have lost just once across all competitions. The Nerazzurri have progressed into the round of 16 of the Champions League and opened up a four point lead at the top of the Serie A standings following a 2-0 win at Lazio last Sunday.
Inter Milan have also impressed in front of their fans this season and are unbeaten in their last seven matches across all competitions at San Siro. Simone Inzaghi’s men have claimed five wins in that run while also keeping as many clean sheets.
Bologna have come through the two previous rounds in the competition to secure a place in Wednesday’s clash. First they claimed a 2-0 victory over Serie C side Cesena before earning a similar result over Verona last time out.
The visitors have plenty of reasons to be pleased with their campaign so far as they are in the round of 16 of the Coppa Italia while also challenging around the top end of the table. Thiago Motta’s men have lost just once in their last 17 matches across all competitions and travel to San Siro off the back of a 2-0 victory over Roma last weekend.
A slight problem for Bologna is that they often do their best work at home and have picked up just one win on their travels this season. The good news is that the win came in their previous away fixture as they triumphed 2-1 at Salernitana.
How the bookies view it
Inter Milan are considered overwhelming favourites among the bookies with a home win priced at 1/2 by bet365. An unlikely victory for Bologna is valued at 6/2 with Paddy Power, who is also offering odds of 7/2 for a draw.
Recent head to head
Both teams have already met this season with Bologna coming from behind to earn a 2-2 draw in a Serie A fixture at San Siro back in October. However, Inter Milan had claimed three straight home wins prior to October’s clash, including back to back 6-2 victories in the previous two meetings in front of their fans.
Players to watch
Lautaro Martinez continues to impress for Inter Milan and has now scored 15 Serie A goals this season. The striker has also found the net in the last three meetings with Bologna at San Siro and is priced at evens with Paddy Power to maintain his scoring run.
Joshua Zirkzee has been the man in form for Bologna in recent weeks, scoring four times in the last five matches across all competitions. The striker was also on target in the October clash at San Siro and is priced at 4/1 by bet365 to find the net on Wednesday.
Anything else catch the eye?
There were over 3.5 goals in the clash in October and a repeat could be on the cards at 2/1 with bet365. Over 2.5 goals could also be considered at 3/4 with BetVictor while bet365 is offering odds of 19/20 on both years to score.
Inter Milan are generally dominant at home and could be tipped to score in both halves at 11/8 with BoyleSports Given the minimal odds for a straight home victory, a win and over 2.5 goals could be considered at 5/4 with Coral.
