Everton vs Newcastle United

, KO: 19:45 , Hill Dickinson Stadium
Newcastle United

Everton welcome 2024/25 EFL Cup winners Newcastle United to the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Thursday night in the fourth round of the EFL Cup.

After beginning the Premier League season with a six-game unbeaten run, Everton come into this clash off the back of consecutive 2-0 defeats.

David Moyes’ men lost at home to Chelsea, before losing to fellow London side Arsenal on Saturday – on an afternoon two of my three selections landed.

Newcastle, on the other hand, come into this clash having put a halt to their two-match losing run at the weekend, defeating Crystal Palace 0-2 at Selhurst Park thanks to two second-half goals from Will Osula and Harvey Barnes.

That result moved the Magpies up into eighth in the Premier League table, one point and three places better off than their hosts.

Both clubs have had joy over Championship opposition in the previous round, with the Toffees seeing off both Preston North End and Wolves, whilst Newcastle edged past both West Brom and Millwall.

How the bookies view it: Everton favourites

Everton are favourites to advance to the next round, with bet365 pricing the Toffees at 4/6 To Qualify, whilst the win inside 90 minutes pays 6/5.

Newcastle are 11/10 to advance to the quarter-finals, with the win inside regulation time priced at 21/10.

Head to head: Everton with the recent edge

Everton have won three and lost just one of their previous six meetings with Newcastle (W3-D2-L1).

However, that solitary Newcastle success did come when these two sides last met at the Hill Dickinson’s last November, with their Premier League Magpies winning 1-4.

Players to watch: Barry to bag again?

Thierno Barry was the hero in Round Two, as he scored a hat-trick in Everton’s 0-4 win at Deepdale against Championship strugglers Preston North End.

The ex-Villarreal striker also has three goals to his name in the Premier League this season – and scored when the sides last met at St James’ Park in February – and appeals at 7/4 at bet365 to Score Anytime.
